Summary

New “PRO” versions ofAMDStrix Point APUs were spotted online, indicating that AMD may be preparing to reveal and release these chips in the immediate future. These newAMDStrix Point chips will likely be available in low-powered laptops, just like the previously revealed Ryzen AI 9 365 and Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 chips.

During Computex 2024 earlier this month, AMD revealed its new Strix Point APUs, also known as the Zen 5-based Ryzen AI 300 series. These new chips bring an impressive core and thread count to low-powered laptops, along with RDNA 3.5 integrated GPUs and a neural processing unit (NPU) designed to power artifical intelligence applications. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is one of the higher end APUs in the Strix Point lineup, with 12 cores, 24 threads, the Radeon 880M GPU, and a 5.1GHz boost clock. The lower end model, Ryzen AI 9 365, still offers a NPU capable of performing 50 trillion operations per second, despite having a slightly lower core/thread count at 10 cores and 20 threads.AMD is also expected to release Ryzen 9000X3D chipsafter the release of the first Strix Point-powered products.

As reported byWccftechand Twitter user @Olrak29_, new listings for Ryzen 9 PRO AI HX and Ryzen 7 PRO AI were found in shipping manifests, suggesting that AMD will reveal and release a new lineup of Strix Point APUs at some point. Like the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the new PRO AI chips are equipped with 12 cores. The listings also indicate that both chips will have a 28W TDP, and it’s assumed that the PRO AI lineup will have better specifications compared to their non-PRO counterparts. Moreover, each listing indicates a May 15 shipping date, implying that AMD has been preparing these new PRO AI chips well beforethe initial Strix Point reveal at Computex 2024.

Release dates for the Ryzen 9 PRO AI HX and Ryzen 7 PRO AI were not listed, but it’s likely that these chips will be released after the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Ryzen AI 9 365 are made available in laptops this July.New Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUsare also expected to be released in July, bringing Zen 5 CPUs to new pre-built PCs and retailers.

Those opting for a Zen 5 CPU instead of a Strix Point-powered laptop will need to consider a slew of components, including a discrete GPU.A powerful GPU paired with a Ryzen 9000 CPUwill ensure PC gamers are getting the highest possible frame rate with smooth frame timing at a high resolution.
