Airdrop Escalation Takeover

The latest update will introduce Respawn’s new approach tolimited time modes (LTM)with the launch of the Airdrop Escalation Takeover. Instead of having its own dedicated playlist like previous LTMs, Airdrop Escalation will “takeover” the normal “Play Apex” game mode. The takeover follows the same rules as a typicalApex Legendsmatch, except the map will be bombarded with supply drops containing progressively high rarities of loot as the ring closes in.

Pathfinder’s Town Takeover

Similar toBloodhound’s Season 4 Town Takeover, Pathfinder is receiving their own Town Takeover set in Olympus. As theApex Legends’ resident boxing enthusiast, it is only natural that Pathfinder’s Town Takeover features a combat arena that prohibits a legend’s weapons and abilities upon entry. Loot balls fill the ring, ensuring great loadouts to squads leaving the ring victorious. There is also no need to worry about outside interference – a force field surrounding the ring protects all combatants from outside projectiles, grenades, and abilities.

Fight Night Collection Event and Rewards Track

As with previousApex Legendsevents, the highlight of the Fight Night Collection are the unlockable cosmetics available for Apex Games competitors. There are 24 limited-time items to purchase with Apex Coins or Crafting Materials. Unlocking all 24 items earns playersGibraltar’s brand-new heirloom, a fire-infused hatchet. Additionally, the event will include a rewards track with a line of earnable cosmetics by completing daily challenges.

Loot MRVNs

Previously decommissionedMRVN units introduced in Season 7now roam Olympus and carry loot of varying tiers to bestow upon players lucky enough to find them. While legends can peacefully accept the MRVNs rewards, the more toxicApex Legendsgun-slinger can alternatively destroy the defenseless robots for their loot. Wrecked MRVNs have a chance to drop their arm, which can be loaded into your inventory to deliver to an armless MRVN for a reward. Results may vary.

Weapon and Legend Meta Updates

Finally, there are a few minor changes coming to a select few legends and weapons to help balance the current meta. Rampart’s Amped Cover cooldown is decreasing from 30 seconds to 20 seconds, while Caustic’s Nox Gas Trap cooldown is decreasing from 25 seconds to 20 seconds. Among minor weapon changes is the much needed nerf to the Hemlok, which sees its damage decreased from 22 to 20.

Many players are surprised by the buff to Caustic’s kit, as he is well-known for being one ofthe most effective legends inApex Legends. According to Respawn, “the Season 7 change was a solid buff for Caustic, but he’s not quite where we want him to be.”

Fans of the Apex Games eager to test out the new updates will have to wait until the Fight Night Collection Event goes live at 8 pm PT on January 5.

Apex Legendsis available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development.
