Summary
Ubisoft opens up about new content forAssassin’s Creed Mirage, confirming that it won’t get any DLC, but the devs may not be done exploring Basim’s story. This latest title in the franchise received considerable recognition from new and long-term fans of the hooded protagonists. WithAssassin’s Creed Mirage, the franchise went back to its roots by offering a compelling and story-driven narrative that die-hardACfans were waiting for.
Assassin’s Creed Miragewas launched in October 2023. Since the launch, most fans reacted positively to the game, though it was one of the shorter titlescompared toAssassin’s Creed Valhallaand its predecessors. The story features Basim Ibn-Ishaq as he becomes a master assassin. The game is set in 9th century Baghdad, and it’s absolutely stunning. While fans don’t know where Basim’s path takes him afterAC Mirage’s story ends, the devs made it pretty clear that this is not the last time players see him.
On April 24, Ubisoft Bordeaux’s creative director Stephane Boudon and art director Jeal-Luc Sala held anAMA session on Redditto engage with fans. One of the Reddit users asked the devs whether players could expect a DLC or any story expansion forAssassin’s Creed Mirage. In reply, Stephane mentioned that they meant to make it a standalone title. He went on to explain their intent by saying, “However, we have ideas on how we could extend the story of Basim, surely. But as of today, no post launch content is planned forMirage.” This means players can perhaps expect to see more of the protagonist, as the devs have “a lot to say about Basim,” whether it’s a cameo like thefight scene inAssassin’s Creed Valhallaor a full AAA feature. At this point, the developers are eager to “explore new horizons,” according to Stephane, though it’s not clear if those horizons will involve Basim.
Assassin’s Creed Fans Are Eager to See Basim in Action Again
In the AMA session, players thanked the devs for a great experience withAssassin’s Creed Mirageand took the news very positively. Fans mentioned that Ubisoft Bordeaux was one of the very few studios that listens to players and tries to provide an experience they crave. One player said that he respects the developers' decision to pursue standalone games rather than DLCs. Some fans pointed out that there arestory items inAssassin’s Creed Mirageand new areasthat can be explored, but none of them complained about not getting a DLC.
However, we have ideas on how we could extend the story of Basim, surely. But as of today, no post launch content is planned forMirage.
All in all, the AMA session seemed to go well for both the devs and players. Players expressed gratitude to the devs for listening to fan feedback and for a great gaming experience. The developers were also very thrilled with the reception ofAssassin’s Creed Mirageand went on to say that they had a blast telling thestory of Master Assassin Basim.
