Where to Start The Stench of Treachery?
Players can complete the previous three quests in any order and each provide insights into Soma’s advisors. Once the final mission is complete, players automatically begin The Stench of Treachery and need to return to Grantebridge. Players will encounter Soma and all three advisors just outside the Longhouse and getting near should start a cutscene. There are no decisions to be made in this short clip and fortunately none of the importantchoices to make inAssassin’s Creed Valhalla.
After this scene ends, players can open up another conversation with Soma and this is when they can decide which of the advisors is thetraitor in this arc ofAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. Before players make their decision, there are a few things they can do to further ensure they are going to make the correct choice.
How to Learn Which Advisor Betrayed Soma?
Constructing a case against the advisors likely began for players at the beginning of the Grantebridgescire arc. For those that haven’t been keeping track, one of the biggest clues can be gathered by entering the secret tunnel in the middle of the Longhouse and working your way out to its exit. Investigating the paint at this secret tunnel entrance/exit gives Eivor some more information on how the invaders entered the city.
The next significant clue can be found at the wrecks of the ships these advisors used while they retreated. Of particular note, Galinn’s longship has come to rest at the Abandoned Bog Hamlet inthis region of England. Interacting with this vessel will cause Eivor to note that it has been splashed with yellow paint, something that cannot be said of the other two.
At this point, players can enter the different huts of the advisors to ask any follow-up questions. Included in these conversations are options to ask even deeper questions as long as players have at least level 2 charisma. This stat can be bolstered through theAssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Flyting side quests. This includes being able to ask Galinn for specific help (to which he will express a lack of an alibi) and question Lif on his activities the night of the attack (creating a sail at the shipyard).
These investigations should point players to Galinn, and opening up dialogue with Soma once more will give players the option to formally accuse him. This will bring about a cutscene in which Soma executes the traitor. Making the wrong decision here, however, dramatically changes things. Instead of returning to Soma at peace in the following mission, players will find that Galinn has completely betrayed Soma, critically wounded the remaining loyal advisor, and players will have to fight him to correct this wrong.
