Whenever Infinity Ward releases a massive update forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, there’s always some things that don’t make it into the patch notes. TheModern WarfareSeason 5 update had a number of secret changes, with fans still discovering all of them. One secretModern WarfareSeason 5 change that has flown under the radar somewhat is a change made to the game’s popular Gunfight mode.

Since theSeason 5 update,Call of Duty: Modern Warfareplayers have been able to ping enemies and locations in Gunfight by pressing “up” on the d-pad. This is exactly how pinging works in theWarzonebattle royale, with the feature seemingly lifted from the BR portion of the game. Users have also reported that they can now ping in the Spec Ops co-op mode as well.

It’s unclear why Infinity Ward didn’t mentionGunfightpinging in the patch notes, but it seems like it will be a popular addition. Gunfight requires a lot of communication from players, which isn’t always easy to do when they don’t have a mic handy or are uncomfortable talking to strangers. This wayModern Warfareplayers can provide important information to their teammates without having to actually talk to them. And even if they are already talking to their teammates, pinging offers extra visual clues that can help players out and make them aware of exact enemy locations.

AnyCall of Dutyfans curious to see how pinging changes up Gunfight can check it out right now in theongoing Gunfight 3v3 playlist. Standard Gunfight is unavailable at the time of this writing, but Gunfight 3v3 provides a very similar experience, albeit with more players on the battlefield. This version of Gunfight 3v3 also has unique weapon blueprints for players to use as well, which should help make matches that much more exciting.

Infinity Ward tends to releasenewCall of Duty: Modern Warfareupdateson a weekly basis, so it’s possible standard Gunfight or a different variant will be introduced this coming Tuesday. Regardless, though,Call of Dutyfans can expect pinging to stay in Gunfight.

It remains to be seen what the nextCall of Duty: Modern Warfareupdate will entail, but it’s possible that it will be an especially big update this week. Activision has been building to theCall of Duty 2020reveal throughWarzone, and it’s looking like the big reveal could finally take place as early as Wednesday.
