Back in August, frequentCall of Duty: Warzoneleaker ModernWarzone made the claim that the battle royale would soon be adding private matches. While we still haven’t had any kind of official confirmation thatWarzoneis getting private matches, there is now new evidence to suggest that the long-awaited feature will actually be coming to the game sooner rather than later.

SomeCall of Duty: Warzoneplayers are being put into a lobby that includes an option forWarzonePrivate Matches. This appears to be a bug, and it’s unclear exactly how many people it is happening to. However, it’s not uncommon for upcomingWarzonecontent to “bleed” into the game before it’s officially been added, and so it’s a safe bet that fans will learn a lot more about private matches in the very near future.

It remains to be seen exactly howWarzoneprivate matches will work.Warzonehas a staggering 150 playersin any given game, and so it would be virtually impossible for fans to put together a proper private match. However, it’s possible that theWarzoneprivate matches will let players adjust the poison gas so that they’re playing on a small battlefield, removing the need to have a full game. Alternatively, it’s possibleWarzoneprivate matches will support bots, not unlike custom games in the standard multiplayer mode.

IfWarzoneprivate matches give players full reign over the rules, it could result in some pretty interesting custom match types. Not only that, but the mode could provide a great way for players to hone their skills before deciding to face real people in online matchmaking. For example, it could letWarzoneplayers try out new weapons, more thoroughly explore the battle royale map, and maybe even completeeaster eggswithout having to worry about being killed by enemy players.

Of course, it’s possible thatInfinity Wardhas no intention of ever actually adding private matches toWarzone, and so fans should keep that in mind.

Even ifWarzoneisn’t getting private matches, there should be plenty of new content for fans of the battle royale to look forward to in the months ahead. The launch ofCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warwill seeWarzoneget an influx of new content based on that game, with things like theRC-XD killstreakand more already teased. Big map changes may also be in the works forWarzonewhenBlack Ops Cold Warlaunches, but fans will just have to stay tuned to find out.
