Summary
Cult of the Lambis an incredible roguelike title that combines those mechanics with a management game. Players must balance defeating powerful enemies while also looking after their followers as their cult grows. With a crown atop the Lamb’s head, few would dare toquestion its authority, and the various upgrades a player can unlock for their crown will also make sure the enemies they face will fear them too.
While there are only four upgrades for the crown, players will need to work for it if they hope to unlock them all. Therefore, it’s great to know which crown upgrade a player should aim for first and which one they can leave until last. Each crown upgrade benefits the player when taking part in the roguelike elements of the game; some help with grinding for resources, while others can have more of an active role in completing the main story inCult of the Lamb. Out of the crown upgrades available, this is the order players should be earning them.
Updated on Jun 21, 2025, by Megan Smith:Starting 2024 off well, Cult of the Lamb has added an entirely new and free DLC to the incredible roguelike title known as Sins of the Flesh. In this update, players now have an entirely new resource to collect known as sin that comes with all sorts of new rituals, upgrades, and buildings for players to create. This new addition to the game, along with the titles' constant sales on sites such as the Steam store, may have encouraged players to finally purchase Cult of the Lamb. The crown that sits atop the lamb’s head remains the same, with players being able to purchase four upgrades for it. The cULT of the Lamb upgrades, such as Omnipresence, are great for players to purchase first and therefore, this is the best order to purchase them.
4Get An Extra Heart Last With Darkness Within
Start With A Diseased Heart And Normal Hearts
Darkness Withinis a great upgrade for any player who is enjoyingCult of the Lamb, though it shouldn’t be the first upgrade a player should invest in. Diseased hearts can be easily obtained during a Crusade through a lucky tarot find or dropping from the environment. This therefore makes the upgrade unnecessary, minus the extra heart the player can use to ensure that they can make it to the end of their current Crusade.
However, this doesn’t mean that Darkness Within is useless, as these diseased hearts are incredibly powerful against enemies. When a player is hit, they will damage all the foes on screen for asubstantial amount of damage, they can do this twice before the heart is completely gone; it cannot be earned again unless the player starts another Crusade. There are three other upgrades that players should consider purchasing first before they decide on Darkness Within, as this upgrade isn’t going to go anywhere until they can afford it at last.
3Dare To Go Farther With Omnipresence
Instantly Return To The Player’s Base
Sometimes a Crusade run can be a little overwhelming, and a player wishes to simply escape. Before theOmnipresenceupgrade, the only way to leave a Crusade was either in a body bag or by defeating the boss of that run. Thankfully, Omnipresence allows a player to no longer have to make it all the way through a Crusade tokeep the resourcesthey’ve collected. At any given time–as long as the player isn’t directly being attacked–the player can press the designated button for Omnipresence to easily teleport out of their current Crusade.
It should be noted that the player cannot return to that run but instead must start all over again if they wish to take on that level of Crusade once more. Omnipresence should be obtained thirdly due to how it can benefit both story Crusades and grinding for resources. Once a player has completed the boss for that Crusade, they are allowed to continue with their run instead of returning to the flock. As mentioned, without Omnipresence, a player would be forced to wait until the next boss, but with this upgrade, they can stop whenever they wish; players should remember that their cult will need their leader back at some point.
2Sate The Hunger Second
Food Gives The Player Extra Hearts
Players are likely to be saving food for their followers who sit at home completing rituals and worshiping their master –the Lamb– while the player goes out on Crusades to release the One Who Waits. However, with the crown upgrade known as The Hunger, the player can now also finally join in and take a bite of the delicious food they have created to benefit themselves during their various crusades. When eating a meal that has been cooked by themselves, the player will receive either a heart, multiple hearts, or even a different type of heart.
This will all depend on the type of food that has been created by the player. Therefore, it would be recommended to save the good ingredients for the Lamb to allow for the best type and number of hearts when going on their next crusade. Players should aim to get this crown upgrade second due to howuseful it is for battles, especially those that feel they struggle to dodge out the way of attacks; more health means less likely to die miserably.
1Always Get Resurrection First
Use A Followers Life To Come Back Once On A Crusade
Out of the four available crown upgrades a player has to choose from, by far the best a player should obtain first is the Resurrection upgrade. This is vital for any player who has been findingCult of the Lambto bequite the challengeand is sick of dying and being unable to finish a Crusade. With the Resurrection upgrade, a player can come back once more when they die the first time during a Crusade.
There is a catch to this, the player must select a follower from their cult to be a Sacrifice so that the little Lamb can rise once more to take on the enemies ahead of them. Depending on who is sacrificed from the followers available will also determine how many hearts the player revives with. A player can still decide to simply lay down and die if they so wish not to sacrifice a follower though out of all the crown upgrades available, the is one that a player should be investing into first, especially if they wish to easily cull the numbers of their following.
