Summary

As CD Projekt Red ramps up its promotion for the upcomingCyberpunk 2077: Phantom LibertyDLC, a number of new characters are being announced. All eyes are on Idris Elba’s Solomon Reed, but there are a handful of other new arrivals who seem just as intriguing, not the least of which being Alena Xenakis.AsCyberpunk 2077DLC previewers praisethe expansion for its base-game enhancements and engaging writing, it’s worth exploring exactly who this Xenakis character is, and what kind of role she will play in V’s upcoming adventure.

Set to release this September,Phantom Libertywill continue the story of V and Keanu Reeve’s Johnny Silverhand, covering their mission to rescue NUSA president Rosalind Myers and uncover the truth behind a grand political conspiracy. DespiteCyberpunk 2077’s controversial launch, gamers seem to have high hopes for thePhantom LibertyDLC, as it follows theBlood and WineandHeart of Stoneexpansions for CDPR’sThe Witcher 3 -two DLCs that are praised as some of the best ever released. It can be argued thatPhantom Libertyis part ofCyberpunk 2077’s broader redemption story, and if that is to be believed, then the DLC’s writing and the new characters it introduces, such as Alena Xenakis, will be a significant part of that story.

Alena “Alex” Xenakis Will Play a Significant Role in Phantom Liberty

While not much has been revealed about Alena Xenakis, also known as Alex, it’s clear that she will be a formidable and useful ally for V inPhantom Liberty. As a member of the Federal Intelligence Agency, she works closely with Solomon Reed, who is a veteran spy and long-time sleeper agent for the FIA. Xenakis, alongside Reed, will likely first encounter V in Dogtown, the new region being added toCyberpunk 2077through the DLC.

Phantom Libertywill beexpandingCyberpunk 2077’s world, and one of the ways it will do that is by fleshing out the FIA, the powerful government agency that aims to extend the reach of governmental control. As a key operator for the FIA, Alena Xenakis will likely be a major source of information about not justPhantom Liberty’s central mission, but about the FIA as a whole.

Xenakis’s Special Skills, Backstory, & How She Joined the FIA

As a covert operator, Xenakis is a bit different from most. Growing up in Los Angeles, Xenakis dreamed of starring in braindances from an early age. As she grew older, she began to pursue her acting aspirations, eventually landing a job with a seemingly reputable braindance studio. If her story ended here, she would certainly not be one of the mostinterestingCyberpunk 2077characters, but it does not. Unbeknownst to her, the braindance studio she auditioned for was actually a front for the FIA, with the aim of finding a talented actor to serve them in their missions.

Joining the FIA, Xenakis used her exceptional acting abilities in different espionage situations, eventually being stationed in Dogtown alongside Reed as an undercover agent. She also leverages shapeshifting technology to alter her appearance, allowing her to be more versatile and convincing during her operations. Reed recruited her directly, so it’s possible that they have a close relationship, one that might be explored inCyberpunk 2077’s DLC.

There are still several unanswered questions surrounding Xenakis. While she likely won’t be anotherCyberpunk 2077romance option, players will likely learn more about her when they playPhantom Libertythemselves. Unknowns about her character, such as how she feels about being a government agent rather than an actress, as she planned, or what her primary motive is for serving with the FIA, will be among the more intriguing aspects to explore whenPhantom Libertylaunches next month.
