Summary
Dead by Daylighthas grown a reputation for featuring some of the biggest names in horror via exciting crossovers. The survival horror game has featured the likes of icons like Xenomorphs and Ghostface, but one of the best horror franchises to be added toDead by Daylighthasn’t got the attention it deserves—at least not to its fullest extent.
When it comes toDead by Daylight’s long history of crossovers, one of the best Survivors to be added to the game has been Ash from theEvil Deadfranchise. As exciting as playing as Ash is, it’s just the tip of the iceberg.Dead by Daylightcould be doing so much more with the franchise, which has become one of the game’s biggest missed opportunities. Although Ash is the most iconic character from theEvil Deadmovies, recent reboots and sequels have offered plenty of great material forDead by Daylightto work with.
Since the original franchise kicked off in the 80s, there have been some recent additions to the series that have provided a fresh new spin.Evil Dead’s 2013 reboot was a grisly, blood-soaked romp that dove deep into the franchise’s body horror elements. Additionally, last year’sEvil Dead Risewas a fun addition to the series, giving a new perspective on the demonic powers that permeate the franchise’s lore. Both offer an exciting new take onEvil DeadthatDead by Daylightcould really draw inspiration from when it comes toadding moreDbDSurvivorsand Killers.
Evil Dead’s soft reboot with 2013’s adaptation brought to life an ultra-violent vision from director Fede Alvarez. The movie turned the gore up to 11 while still paying homage to the original film that started it all. The film’s protagonist, and also antagonist, was newcomer Mia. Some of the most memorable scenes in the film involved Mia being possessed by the franchise’s notorious Deadites.
Revisiting the series by featuring Mia as both a Survivor and a Killer could be incredibly fun. There are plenty oficonic horror charactersDead by Daylightcould utilize, and Mia is one of the more underrated final girls in recent memory.
Mia was featured as a playable character inEvil Dead: The Game, but it would be great to see her adapted inDead by Daylight’s world.
Last year’sEvil Dead Riseoffered an interesting look into what it’s like for a family to deal with the horror of the Deadites, particularly within a location as claustrophobic and inescapable as an apartment floor. Single mother Ellie is the main victim of these demons, and they turn her into something completely horrifying.
Not only does Ellie get the brunt of the Deadites' torture while her family tries to survive, but the climax of the film features Ellie and her now-possessed children fused into a horrifying monster known as the Marauder. The gruesome chimera-like Deadite would be right at home as a Killer inDead by Daylight. There have been quite a few terrifying moments intheEvil Deadfranchise, and the Marauder is one of the more shocking villains to grace the series.
TheEvil Deadfranchise is now one of the most iconic properties in the horror genre, and a game likeDead by Daylightis ignoring a huge opportunity by not bringing newer movies' content into the game. Ash may be the most notable character from the series, but Mia and the Marauder are compelling in their own right. With somany crossovers inDead by Daylight, it’s surprising that the game hasn’t offered moreEvil Deadcontent with the new movies making such a splash.
There are plenty ofhorror icons that would be perfect inDead by Daylightand Mia and the Marauder from the recentEvil Deadchapters could make for some exciting additions. WithEvil Deadbeing one of the most beloved horror franchises around,Dead by Daylightwould be smart to explore the series to its full potential.
