Inventory management becomes an issue in many games, and some handle it better than others. From games that allow the player to carry half a city around on their back to those that take issue with picking up one too many pencils, there are many ways to handle the numerous weapons, tools, and other items that players collect throughout their travels.

Hardcore MMO shooterDeadsidegives players avariety of bags and backpacks to choose fromin order to haul around their gear. In a world in which players fight over every resource, having a few extra Bandages or Painkillers or some more ammunition can make a huge difference. Since carrying capacity affects survivability as much as profit, choosing the right backpack is a big deal. Here’s everything there is to know about the best backpacks in the game.

5Improvised Backpack

TheImprovised Backpackis the only bag in the game that the player cannot purchase. Instead, it must be crafted. Fortunately, the resources needed to craft it are free and easy to acquire and can easily be snagged whilemaking a wood runor doing another basic task. It requires 1 piece of rope, which can be found in towns and construction zones, and 4 rags, which can be attained by cutting cloth into rags.Once the player has these resources, crafting an Improvised Backpack is simple.Inventory management can be tricky inDeadside,so new players would do well to craft anImprovised Backpackright away if they cannot afford a better bag from the trader.

Having a freely available bag is wonderful, but it comes with a serious downside. TheImprovised Backpacksimply isn’t that good. It holds very little, with a carrying capacity of only 6 slots, cannot hold extra firearms, and cannot be sold. Though it’s better than nothing, it’s not going to give the player much room to haul their goods through the countryside, and inDeadsidethe player needs everything they can get.

4Bag

The duffel bag that carries the generic nameBagis an improvement over theImprovised Bag,moving up to 7 inventory slots instead of 6. The addition of 1 inventory slot is a small improvement, but theBag’supgrades don’t stop there. TheBagis the first backpack in the game that can carry up to two sidearms, giving the player a bit more wiggle room where their weaponry is concerned. That’s certainly an improvement, but this bag also comes with its downsides.

Unlike the Improvised Backpack, every other backpack in the game (starting with the Bag) must either be looted or purchased.TheBagcosts 5,000, which is on the cheaper end of things, so it isn’t difficult to pick up, but if players are going to spend their hard-earned money on a backpack, they may be better served waiting for one of the more useful types. TheBagis good for beginners or those who have been forced by circumstance to do with less, but other players will want to move on to better options.

3Assault Backpack

The most common bag overall, theAssault Backpackis popular not only amongst players but also amongst military NPCs, making it a regular sight in the game. TheAssault Backpackcan be purchased from a Safe Zone Trader for 25,000, which is certainly more expensive than theBag,but with its 9 slots and two sidearm capacity, it is well worth the expense. A backpack of this quality makes life much easier, whetherbuilding a baseor hunting NPCs.

The Assault Backpack is a comfortable compromise between price and utility, which is likely why it’s so popular amongst players. The player can also sell it for 5,000, turning a tidy profit should they loot one. Though there are better backpacks, theAssault Backpackis the most reliable choice early on, and because it isn’t the absolute best item in its category, the player isn’t as likely to be shot and killed for it by hungry looters.

2Typhoon Backpack

TheTyphoon Backpackcontains 12 slots, which makes it the first backpack to increase its storage space by an increment of three, a significant improvement over the already-excellentAssault Backpack. This increased storage space can be used for a variety of purposes and is far better than the storage offered by lesser bags such as theImprovised Bagand genericBag.It can also carry two sidearms.

It costs 50,000 to purchase theTyphoon Backpackfrom a trader, so it’s no surprise that this bag is encountered far less frequently than theAssault Backpackand other, lesser options. Despite its added space, theTyphoon Backpackstill has its limits. It cannot carry an additional primary weapon, and therefore even loot goblins will want to think twice about whether this backpack is worth the price. It should also be noted that, as one of the better backpacks in the game, theTyphoon Backpackmay draw the attention of some players, marking its wearer as a potential target or threat.

1Stalker Backpack

TheStalker Backpackis the largest bag currently inDeadside, offering players a whopping 15 slots of added inventory space and the ability to store two sidearms. More importantly, theStalker Backpackis the only bag in the game that grants the ability to carry two medium weapons, making it an absolute must for players who intended to move large amounts of guns. This added space comes at a premium, however, costing the player 150,000 for the Stalker Backpack.Though this price point is high, given how much of an advantage the Stalker Backpack provides compared to other backpacks, there’s no doubt it’s worth the price.

It’s important to note that theStalker Backpackhas another definite downside: it is conspicuously large and visible, making it easy for other players to know that one is carrying this valuable item and possibly a bunch of good loot within it. TheStalker Backpackmay make the wearer a target, but with its fantastic carrying capacity, it’s still easily the best inthis brutal survival game. The player must simply be ready to deal with those that would try to take it away.
