Death Strandingis a game that has inspired many questions, questions like “Is hiking across vast terrain to deliver packages fun?”, “What’s with the baby in a jar?”, and “Did Hideo Kojima predict the coronavirus?” But of all of these, none are as amusingly dumb as the one a certain YouTuber took it upon himself to find the answer to: “Can you write out your name with pee?”
It goes without saying that the ability to relieve oneself on command, and the ability to grow blood-replenishing mushrooms with it, certainly makes for one ofDeath Stranding’s stranger innovations. It’s also far more versatile than most players would expect, because as Reetae27 recently discovered, one can actually deform the snow in the game’s snowy sections by peeing on it.

With this revelation, Reetae27, a YouTuber known fortrying to put a basketball through a hoop inMarvel’s Spider-Man, set out to see if he could use this to spell out his username in the snow. What made him confident that he could do it was the fact that protagonist Sam Bridges can hold 1,000 ml of pee, double the amount an actual human bladder should be able to hold. “Fortunately, Kojima is not confined by such things,” he told Polygon.
Unfortunately, there were multiple obstacles to deal with, starting with the fact that he had to stay close to the snow in order for it to stay deformed, which made it harder to properly draw the letters. He tried to remedy this bybuilding a bridgeto provide him with some high ground to pee from, but this too proved challenging as he struggled to find a wide and flat snowy area that the game would let him put a bridge on, not to mention getting there with all of the materials needed to construct the bridge.
Despite everything that got in his way, Reetae27 eventually achieved his goal of putting his name insideDeath Strandingafter around 15 hours spread out across a two week period. And from the sound of it, he doesn’t regret investing that much time into answering such a silly question. “While you personally might not find that information useful, I would argue it’s no more pointless than being able to pee in a video game in the first place,” he said at the end of the video, “and that if anything, all I did was give this somewhat superfluous game mechanic the purpose it always needed.”
Death Strandingis available now on PS4, with a PC version set to launch on July 14.
