Although this week’s Sony PlayStation 5 event was meant to give the most important information about the next-gen console like price and release date, there were a few bits of news that were left out. For example, Sony only later confirmed thatpre-orders for the PS5would begin tomorrow, September 17, at select retailers.
Another piece of information that was not confirmed during the event were some of the launch titles that will either accompany the PS5 at its release date on November 12 or will follow shortly thereafter. Chief among those is theDemon’s Soulsremake from Bluepoint Games.

During the event, Bluepoint showed off the first look at truegameplay fromDemon’s Souls, which highlighted the improvements to gameplay, the visuals in-engine, and gave some quick glances at the game’s iconic boss fights. But then the trailer concluded without any mention of a release date or even a release window.
It was only a few minutes after the event thatThe Game Awards creator Geoff Keighleyconfirmed thatDemon’s Soulsis a launch title for the PS5. And then, a little after that, Sony revealed thatDemon’s Soulsremake will be a launch day PS5 game. It joins the likes ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales,Astro’s Playroom(packed in with the console), andSackboy: A Big Adventureas part of the PS5’s exclusive line-up.
The one major detail about theDemon’s Soulslaunch that is drawing a lot of criticism is the pricing. Apparently, every launch day game for the Ps5 except for Spider-Man: Miles Morales, will retail for $69.99. Take-Two kicked off thepremium prices for next-gen games trend withNBA 2K, and now it appears Sony is following suit.
There had been rumors thatDemon’s Soulsmight be a surprise launch titlefor the PS5, but many were unsure given that Sony had never announced the game as such. OnlySpider-Man: Miles Moraleswas touted as the big launch exclusive at the time, but there was speculation that some other games might accompany it.Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apartwas hoped to be a PS5 launch title, but unfortunately a follow-up gameplay demo confirmed that it is not.
Now, PS5 gamers know for sure that they will be able to jump intoDemon’s Soulson Day 1 and either re-experience the first true,Soulsexperience, or see the game that started it all, only with a fresh coat of paint. There are definitely some key differences between how original developer FromSoftware approachedDemon’s Soulsand thenevolved the formula forDark Souls, but they are still very familiar experiences. Many fans considerDemon’s Soulsto be the best of the bunch, though, which is why the remake was so often requested.
