Bungie has been working on a bug that has prevented players from finishing the newFelwinter’s Lie Shotgun questinDestiny 2, and though Hotfix 2.8.1.3 made it possible for players to acquire the weapon, there are still issues surrounding its presence in the game. That ubiquitous bug was the opening focus of Bungie’s weekly update, but it went on to talk about other upcoming content for the looter-shooter including adjustments to reload-focused perks.
Apparently theDestiny 2development team has noticed a lot of players picking perks that improve their damage output or reduce their weapon downtime, which makes perks that impact stats related to reloading not feel like viable choices. These stats break down into three categories, according to the post: The actual Reload Stat, calculated from 0 to 100, affecting animation speed; Reload Duration Scale that applies “a small multiplier to the reload animation” even if Reload Stat is maxed; and Reload Empty Duration Scale that does the same if a weapon’s magazine is empty.

Four perks will see updates inDestiny 2’s Sandbox as the team focuses on “tuning” perks, though these changes may seem small compared to recentchanges with mechanics like gear infusion. The “Outlaw” perk will have its stat and duration scale slowed down, “Feeding Frenzy” will increase reload speed based on number of rapid kills up to five, “Rapid Hit” will scale more with subsequent hits, and “Drop Mag” will have its duration scale brought in-line with “Outlaw.”
Alongside these changes, the developers will be retuning some “underused” perks such as “Pulse Monitor,” “Hipfire Grip,” and “Sneak Bow.” They also promise new perks will be available on exclusive weapons coming in the next season of content, asDestiny 2will continue seeing updates even through the launch of thePlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
That being said, Bungie has not had the strongest track record outside of its minor additions and tweaks as of late. The aforementioned issues with the Felwinter’s Lie quest appeared inDestiny 2not long after its bigGuardian Games event ended with a lackluster rewardfor participating players.
Not all of the studio’s efforts have been for naught, though it’s currently hard to tell whether the reload perks changes will be a success. Bungie’sGuardian’s Heart Initiative campaign raised over $780,000for coronavirus relief, so it’s clear the game still has a strong, dedicated fanbase.
