Bungie has announced a significant increase in reputation earned fromDestiny 2’s Gambit game mode. Gambit is still part ofDestiny 2’s core playlists, even if most players are choosing to play other modes ahead of it.SinceDestiny 2was initially released in 2017, it has become one of the leading first-person shooters in gaming. Bungie has done everything to ensure its post-Haloofferings have enough to satisfy gamers, with a major expansion released every year since launch.Destiny 2’s 2019 move to a free-to-play modelalso significantly helped the game, as it expanded the possible audience to millions more players. With theLightfallexpansion releasing soon,Destiny 2will remain a key player in the multiplayer first-person shooter genre for years to come. It remains to be seen whether the move will help revive Gambit, with the game’s other PvP mode, Crucible, proving more popular with theDestiny 2community.

This move comes as a surprise to fans, with the Gambit game mode not receiving any new content since Season 6. One frustrated fan replied to the news on Twitter, saying, “All we (gambit enjoyers) want is updates to gambit. Or a new map. Or an old map.” There is definitely a fan appetite for more Gambit content. With only four maps in the current map pool and two mapsvaulted like other olderDestiny 2content, players feel that a change is long overdue. It’s possible that Bungie will show more interest in revamping the mode once theLightfallexpansion is released.

Gambit was first introduced in 2018’sForsakenexpansion pack. The game mode has been recently causing problems for players ahead of the game’sLightfallexpansion, withglitches causing a number of issues with Gambit. Frustrating glitches combined with a severe lack of content have led players to turn away from Gambit in favor of other game modes. It’s not too little too late, however. There is a dedicated fan base that still has the potential to grow if given the right attention from the developer.
