Alongside the reveal ofDestiny 2: Beyond Light, developer Bungie offered its first pieces ofinformation about Season of Arrivals, which starts today. But while past season reveals have been packed with details and a roadmap, Bungie is keeping things a little more mysterious. However, the studio did confirm that a new dungeon is on the way and it launches in just a few hours.
Prophecy is a new dungeon forDestiny 2and it will be free for all players. This means gamers who didn’t purchase Shadowkeep or the Season Pass will be able to access this new content.
Destiny 2director Luke Smith discussed the new dungeon similar to a raid launch, in that the content will have a power level requirement above current levels. On top of that, Bungie is holding off on releasing the Prophecy dungeon until 5pm PT so that fireteams of 3 can try to accumulate as much power as possible.
In a new trailer for theDestiny 2Prophecy Dungeon, Bungie shows how the new content ties in withThe Nine storyline. Players look to be heading into a strange new dimension to fight familiar foes in pursuit of new armor. Smith also mentioned that there would be returning armor available from the dungeon, so it’s possible that the Trials of the Nine set fromDestiny 2Year 1 will be part of Prophecy’s loot pool.
The one intriguing detail from the trailer is that there appears to be a section where the fireteam is using sparrows to travel along twisting, thin structures. It may be free but that detail along suggests that the newDestiny 2dungeon could be quite large.
As far as Destiny 2’s ongoing story is concerned it’s unclear if Prophecy will wrap up any dangling threads regarding The Nine or if it will open up new possibilities to be explored during Season of Arrivals and beyond. During itsYear 4 reveal stream, Bungie covered a lot about the future of Destiny 2 in the form of three years’ worth of expansions, but many players may be curious about the present.
What fans do know is that Season of Arrivals has begun just a few minutes ago and there are new weapons to chase, new armor available, and a new public event that features the first appearances of theDarkness pyramid ships. Players are likely to be intimately familiar with all of that new content as they rush to raise their power level as quickly as possible before 5pm.
Destiny 2: Season of Arrivalsstarts today on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
