Players ofDestiny 2are an eagle-eyed sort, noticing almost everything and anything the series has had to offer since the original title launched in 2014. One fan recently caught a detail in one of the game’s old quests that brought its visuals in line with some of the content introduced months later in theShadowkeepexpansion.

The Invitation of the Nine quest was originally introduced inDestiny 2’s Season of the Drifter last spring, and saw players encountering the enigmatic Emissary of the Nine and seeing her past interactions with the Drifter, the shady host of the Gambit game mode. Guardians who have yet to complete the quest can still do so by buying the associated item fromthe exotic vendor Xur, who is present inDestiny 2over weekends.

While completing the quest, Reddit user Breshii noticed that the pyramids shown in one of the Emissary’s visions had received an updateafter the release ofShadowkeep, bringing their appearance more in line with that of the pyramid that players visited in the expansion in the fall. A comparison of the visuals before and after the modification is below.

The original look of the pyramids in the Invitation of the Nine quest appears to be based on a piece of early concept art released in 2016, a year before the ships made their first appearance: a post-credits cameo in the Red War,Destiny 2’s original campaign. The ships are implied to belong to the true form of the Darkness, the primary antagonist hinted at since the beginning ofDestiny.Players ventured into one atthe end ofShadowkeep’s story, but developer Bungie has kept the mystery going since then.

The moment with the new visuals comes and goes quickly, but Bungie’s dedication to keeping the experience of playing through the wealth of content inDestiny 2consistent and up to date has been admirable, even if the game has hadsome growing pains in the Season of Dawn. Some recent content, like the Saint-14 quest, even rewards the player with additional lore if they completed some of the earliest content from the Curse of Osiris expansion in the game’s first year.
