WhenDestiny 2: Beyond Lightlaunched, Bungie promised that next-gen upgrades were coming soon. “Soon” has now arrived and players on Xbox Series X and on PS5 can now get the best version of the game, along with several upgrades available to everyone.
Bungie detailed via a post on its site all of the various features and updates that launched today. The first feature Bungie listed was thatDestiny 2players may now play cross-generationwith those on the same console family, meaning that Xbox One players can play with Xbox Series X/S players and that PS4 players can play with PS5 players. Full crossplay is slated for next year.

In terms of performance upgrades, next-gen consoles will have significantly improved load times, which permeate everything from the game’s launch time to the speed at which players can navigate through menus. These consoles will also run the game at 4K 6oFPS with an additional 120FPS mode in Crucible available to those whose displays will allow the FPS jump. Bungie also made sure to note that upgrading to the next-gen version ofDestiny 2is absolutely free.
In addition to these upgrades, Bungie also mentioned several other updates that those without a PS5 or Xbox Series X can enjoy, the first of being that theDestiny 2companion app for smartphones has been updated. While the app previously let players do things such as view what items were with the postmaster and shift items between characters and your vault on the fly, a new feature has been added: acquiring bounties from the app.
Players no longer have to go speak to each bounty giver to obtain bounties from them, because they can now be picked up remotely from the app. It is worth noting that this works for all bounties, meaning they can now all be acquired at one place. That being said, players do have to be in orbit, in the tower, or offline for this feature to work.
Theexotic quest to acquire the Hawkmoonhand cannon is also now officially in the game. WhenBeyond Lightfirst launched, many players were upset at the lack of new weapons added to the game as many older weapons were sunset. While it’s only one weapon, the Hawkmoon should alleviate this concern at least somewhat.
Some other players were concerned at the number of physical locations and raids removed with theBeyond Lightupdate as well, but Bungie has alsoadded the Prophecy dungeon backinto the game today. Again, it’s not much of a fix, but it will definitely help alleviate the concerns of some players.
