Summary

Destiny 2players were treated to a relatively unusual sight shared by one player: a Psion without its helmet. Members of the Cabal enemy faction, Psions almost always wear a helmet and face mask, making a glimpse of their unarmored organic forms a rare thing inDestiny 2.

A massive army of large, armored foes bristling with military potential, theCabal is one of the most iconicDestinyfactions. So much so that Cabal became the main enemy ofDestiny 2’s launch, as the Cabal Red Legion drove the main plot of the game’s launch era. Similarly, the Cabal Emperor Calus wasDestiny 2’s first raid boss and also the final enemy players faced inLightfall, the penultimate expansion ofDestiny’s Light and Darkness story arc. Cabal are even some of the Guardians' most visible allies, as the remnants of the Cabal Empire under Caiatl joined hands with the Vanguard to fight back against The Witness inThe Final Shape.

While powerfulCabal soldiers inDestiny 2like Legionnaires, Centurions, and Phalanxes are the stereotypical image of the Cabal, it’s easy to see the diminutive Psion enemies in their ranks. That said, Psions are typically found on the edges of a Cabal formation, flushing players from cover with their psychic powers or trying to snipe them from afar with long-range weapons. Thus, it’s unusual to get a close-up look at a Psion at all, much less one without its armor, as player Confident_Ad_8745 did during their playthrough ofThe Final Shape. They shared the sight with theDestinyReddit community, prompting amused reactions from fellow players.

Destiny 2 Community Amused by Rare Helmetless Psion

Confident_Ad_8745 shared a screenshot taken facing a dead Psion, remarking that it was the first time they’d seen one without its helmet on. Commenters reacted with feigned shock and horror, demanding that the helmet be put back on or claiming Bungie should issue refunds for causing emotional distress.

A few even likened the Psion to the Human-Dalek, a variant of theiconic Doctor Who Daleks. Also known as Dalek Sec, the Human-Dalek merged with a human to obtain an organic existence and experience human emotions.

Some more experiencedDestiny 2players also pointed out that this isn’t the first time Psions have been seen with exposed faces. The first time Psions were seen helmetless was in thedefunctDestiny 2Leviathan Raid, where unmasked Psion Councilor enemies appear in most of the raid’s encounters. By comparison, the Councilors' faces looked similar to the one posted by Confident_Ad_8745, though the ones fromThe Final Shapeappear to have been tampered with by The Witness in some way.

Psions have been enemies inDestinysince the launch of the original game, but it’s a testament to the game’s huge scope that players are still discovering new things about them almost a decade later. AsDestiny 2grows and diversifies its enemy factions, it’s likely that players will make more unusual discoveries in the future.
