Bungie has confirmed that theDestiny 2servers will be offline for a 24-hour period beginning at 9am PT on February 27. Bungie’s looter-shooterDestiny 2remains one of the most popular FPS games around. Many fans have remained engaged with the game through its seasonal content drops, but others may be waiting for the new expansion to drop before they resume theirDestiny 2adventures. Luckily, the wait forDestiny 2’s expansion is nearly at an end.

Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion is scheduled to launch on February 28 for all platforms, giving players the chance to experience the next step in the game’s overarching narrative. It will take players to the cityNeomuna on Neptune, introduce many highly-requested quality-of-life features, and much more. Hype is high for theDestiny 2Lightfall expansion, and the 24-hour maintenance will hopefully ensure that everything goes smoothly.

AfterDestiny 2goes offline on February 27 at 9am PT, those that have Lightfall pre-ordered can pre-download the expansion on their platform of choice. Bungie did not provide a specific file size for Lightfall, but did warn players that it will be “large.” On the bright side,Destiny 2’s load times should be faster, and the game should take up less overall space after the Lightfall download. And while the 24-hour maintenance should help Bungie withDestiny 2’s Lightfall launch, fans should still brace themselves for the possibility that there will be server issues or extended downtime.

At the very least, there will be sign-in queues forDestiny 2with the Lightfall expansion’s launch, as Bungie is expecting an influx of players. According to the latest This Week at Bungie post, players can expectsign-in queues forDestiny 2for the first hours of the expansion’s launch and at “peak play times.” Needless to say,Destiny 2enthusiasts may want to plan accordingly and not get their hopes up that they will get to play through the Lightfall expansion with friends as soon as it goes live on February 28.

Lightfall is the second-to-last expansion for the currentDestinystory saga, which Bungie has named the Light and Darkness Saga. The Final Shape expansion, expected to release last year, is set to wrap up the ongoingDestiny 2storyline before the game moves on to a new saga. Whether that means a potentialDestiny 3game or not remains to be seen, but for now, fans can prepare for Lightfall’s launch later this month.

Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
