A Reddit user pays their girlfriend––or rather fiancé––a visit, only to stumble across a ton of old-schoolDiablomerchandise.

Diablois a long-running video game franchise that made its debut in January 1997, going on to sell over 24 million copies across all its entries. The series is notable for only receiving three main games over the past 26 years, but compensating for this with multiple expansions to each one. Any long-running franchise is bound to have a ton of merchandise, with even original copies of the games themselves being of great value.

Redditor /U/PM_Me_UR_BEEFCAKE posted a pair of photographs, showing off the nostalgicDiablocollection they found during their dig. Original PC copies of the first two games are laid out vertically in release order, alongside eight CDs still inside their paper sleeves, which one commenter notes were mandatory for the games to even run on the PC. Two more copies ofDiablo 2are also present, both including its expansion,Lord of Destruction. The collection is capped off with a Battle Chest filled with strategy guides, and even a Blizzard Entertainment product catalog. Nothing pertaining to the latest entry,Diablo Immortal, is present, but that game isn’t nearly old enough to be nostalgic andhas proven to be quite controversialsince its 2022 release.

Preservation of old games is an aspect of the gaming industry that is notoriously poor, althoughsome companies are better at it than others. Retro collectors have often found themselves shelling out hundreds or even thousands of dollars for older hardware and software on eBay, although for the most part,Diablois an exception, even for its earlier entries. Still, finding a copy of a decades-old game at no charge, in good condition, and by complete accident is not something to take lightly. Only question is whether the user’s girlfriend is willing to part with the collection.

Of course, there could be a catch. As several fellow Redditors in the comments point out, the CD keys are visible in plain sight within the photographs, meaning that anyone who spots the codes could register them in the game’s online servers, rendering a crucial part of this collection useless in the future assuming they haven’t been registered by their owner already. With even the modern age of gamingstruggling from issues regarding DLC codes, that alone casts a shadow of doubt on the viability of this otherwise impressiveDiablocollection.
