There’s currently a lot of activity around theDragon Agefranchise. For Dragon Age Day, fans got a new cinematic of Solas, confirmation of a new prequel comic series, and a new short story set in the world of Thedas. Furthermore,Dragon Age: Absolutionreleases on Netflixon December 9, taking viewers and fans of the franchise to the world of Thedas. When it comes to The Game Awards, though, the game was unfortunately a no-show. This was always a possible reality, but fans had a couple of reasons for hoping it would be there.
Dragon Age: Dreadwolfis the upcoming game in the franchise, where players will be attempting to stop Solas' plan or dealing with its consequences. Outside its Tevinter setting, emphasis on Red Lyrium, and antagonistic Solas, not much has been shown about the game. The Game Awards 2022 could have changed that, but it didn’t.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s Game Awards Pattern
While BioWare did show off anew Solas cinematic forDragon Age: Dreadwolfon December 4, many hoped this would be an appetizer ahead of a full trailer. That is clearly now not the case, but those holding out hope had time on their side. Things tend to happen in patterns and cycles, but companies and people are obviously not as mechanical as games themselves. However, BioWare had broughtDragon Ageto The Game Awards in 2018 and 2020, first teasing the title in 2018 and releasing a small trailer focused on Solas at the 2020 event. It skipped 2019 and 2021, suggesting BioWare has a tendency to attend every other ceremony.
That tradition was broken this year, perhaps to the dismay of many fans, but again there are probably factors at play here. BioWare has been very open recently aboutDragon Age: Dreadwolf’s development, with fans knowing it is in its alpha stage, and that’s what fans should remember. Not the disappointment of a missed showcase, but the thoroughness and transparency the dev is delivering.
No matter what, it’s important BioWare takes its time withDragon Age: Dreadwolf,as fans have been waiting for a new entry in the franchise sinceDragon Age: Inquisitionlaunched in 2014. This game is going to release close toInquisition’s 10-year anniversary as it stands, and that’s okay. 2023 is another year, and another chance to learn Age: Dreadwolf.
