NetherRealm has much more in store forMortal Kombat 1fans than just a few extra fighters, as revealed by Ed Boon during the recent CCXP23 event in Brazil. Boon announced that his team plans to continue adding new content toMortal Kombat 1over a multi-year period, and that said content will include a new story campaign. “Just like we did withMK11, we’re going to release a second part with more story, and we have a big surprise after that,” Boon revealed during the WB Games panel, though he naturally remained tight-lipped about what other surprises will come.

Boon’s comments about continuing to supportMortal Kombat 1for a very long time are certainly on-brand for NetherRealm, asMortal Kombat 11would receive new characters and story content until 2021 - a good two years after it was released in 2019 and less than two years beforeMortal Kombat 1came out. CCXP23 also provided fans with an extended look at the aforementioned Quan Chi in action, as well as a brief glimpse of both Peacemaker andMortal Kombat Trilogyhidden character Khameleon as a new Kameo fighter.

There has already been plenty of exciting new content added toMortal Kombat 1in the months since its release, including new holiday-themed Fatalitiesand character campaigns for its online Invasion mode. Ed Boon promises even more where that came from, including a full-fledged DLC story chapter that will likely continue whereMK 1’schilling post-credits cliffhanger left off. Boon also says that other surprises are in the cards, and players can look forward to even more ofMortal Kombat 1over the next couple of years.
