The Mountaintops of the Giants was once a land inhabited by giants inElden Ring. Unfortunately, after the shattering, the region became no more and now only spirits live in the lands. The Mountaintops of the Giants are located northeast of the Lands Between and can be accessed by using a certain grand lift.

Reaching theMountaintops of the Giantsis a crucial step to progress in the story ofElden Ring, as the Fire Giant can be found in this region. Defeating this boss opens the way to reach theCrumbling Farum Azula, which will unlock the final boss inLeyndell, Ashen Capital, the Capital of Ash.

Updated September 8th, 2024: The Mountaintops of the Giants is one of Elden Ring’s most atmospheric and tragic areas. This whole area is essentially a giant graveyard for the Giants themselves and at the end of it is the last remaining Giant (AKA the Fire Giant), cursed by Queen Marika to live protecting the Giant’s Forge from any and all invaders. The Mountaintops of the Giants is a ton of fun to explore, but actually reaching this area of the Lands Between is pretty involved. So, let’s go over exactly what you’ll need to do to access this location and the steps involved with getting there.

How To Get To The Mountaintops Of The Giants In Elden Ring

To get to theMountaintops of the GiantsinElden Ring, players need to use the Grand Lift of Rold, which is located east of one of the most important locations inElden Ring,Leyndell, Royal Capital.

However, there’s not really a way to get here without first beating Morgott, The Omen King in Leyndell, soit’s locked behind a certain level ofmain story progression.Still, for anyone wondering how to get here or where the Grand Lift of Rold is even located, we’ve gone over all the details in-depth below.

How To Get The Rold Medallion In Elden Ring

The Rold Medallion is given to players byMelinaafter they defeatMorgott, the Omen Kingin the Royal Capital of the Lands Between, Leyndell. Upon beating the Omen King (the real one this time, not a projection like in Stormveil Castle), you’ll notice that Morgott’s body stays on the ground instead of disintegrating like all otherElden Ringbosses and a Site of Grace also doesn’t spawn.

This is the game’s way of telling you that there’s something you need to do first, which is attempt to enter the Erdtree itself by going up the large staircase leading into the tree on the other side of Morgott’s arena. Once you discover that the tree’s entrance is blocked by thorns/roots, you’ll turn around to see that a Site of Grace has now spawned in the center of Morgott’s arena. Sit at this Site of Grace, and Melina (your very own Maiden) will appear before you to elaborate on why the Erdtree is currently inaccessible.

The Erdtree in Elden Ring

She’ll tell you that you’ll have to burn the Erdtree to get past these roots/thorns and directs you towards the Mountaintops of the Giants. This is whereMelina gives you the Rold Medallionas well, meaning you’ll have everything you need to now access this snowy mountaintop area (she even marks the Grand Lift of Rold for you as well)

How To Get To The Grand Lift Of Rold

The Grand Lift of Rold can be found just northeast of the Forbidden Lands Site of Grace. The easiest way to get here is by taking the gigantic wooden elevator leading out of Leyndell, accessible by following the path behind the large open door in the direct opposite direction of the Erdtree Avatar found at the street level of Leyndell’s layout. After using this gigantic elevator and following the only path forward, you’ll find yourself facing another elevator (a stone one this time) that leads to the Forbidden Lands Site of Grace (if it’s nighttime, watch out for the Night’s Calvary nearby as well).

From here, hop on Torrent and start heading northeast (again, it’s marked on your map). You’ll know you’re in the right place when theBlack Blade Kindred (Forbidden Lands)appears. We highly recommend you briefly run past the Black Blade Kindred here and activate the Site of Grace right next to the Grand Lift first.

There’s a Stake of Marika here so you’d respawn nearby but it’s worth activating the Site of Grace too, just in case. Then, after either avoiding or fighting the Black Blade Kindred, interact with the Grand Lift using the Medallion to take the Lift up to the Mountaintops of the Giants.
