Countless videos ofplayers one-shottingElden Ringbosseswith Comet Azur have reinforced that belief over the years, convincing numerous magic users to give this Primeval Sorcery a try. But many fans who did so have subsequently realized that Comet Azur is not necessarily a press-shoulder-button-to-win spell it was made out to be, not least because it is fairly difficult to use effectively.
Elden Ring’s Comet Azur Defeated by a Slope
That group now includes Reddit user Electronic-Ad-7424, who recently tried to leverage Comet Azur to deal with a Duelist found near the arena in Leyndell, Royal Capital. But their blue beam of death ended up doing nothing except for wasting their time, all because the Duelist was approaching them from a slightly elevated position. The elongated attack, which was even helped by theuse ofElden Ring’s Cerulean Hidden Tear for unlimited FP, consequently did no damage. The enemy even calmly waited it out, looking positively unimpressed.
The humorous scene of Electronic-Ad-7424’s Comet Azur casting attempt ended up on the front page of the r/EldenRing subreddit over the final weekend of May 2024, much to the amusement of many a fan. And while some of the players reacting to the clip did so by cracking jokes, others used it as an opportunity to highlight that FromSoftware could have done a better job with slopedranged combat inElden Ring. Namely, the issue that prevented Comet Azur from connecting in the recently shared video can also inhibit the use of other ranged weapons, such as bows and throwables. Players using ranged builds are hence advised to free-aim when trying to hit an opponent at an elevated position.
Although traditional free-aiming isn’t possible with spells, it can still be achieved with the Telescope tool. But that’s quite a lot of setup to make some of the harder-hitting spells like Comet Azur work in these scenarios, especially given how most of them tend to have really long windups. Overall, this humorous clip serves to underline Comet Azur’s reputation as one ofElden Ring’s hardest-to-use spells.
