Shadows Of Rose
Shadows of Rosetakes place after the main story and gives players control of Ethan’s daughter, the eponymous Rose. The DLC’s trailer shows an older Rose returning to the titular village and interacting with a range of strange entities, including someone who looks a lot like the protagonist. Rose seems to be searching for a way to get rid of her powers, at least by the information revealed for the expansion so far. Shadows of Rose will be played in third-person, unlike the main game.
The Mercenaries Additional Orders
Mercenaries mode is already part ofResident Evil Village, but Additional Orders looks set to expand on the experience in a few key ways. Along with introducing new stages to the arcade-style mode, Additional Orders will also add a few playable characters, including Alcina Dimitrescu.
Third-Person Support
The Winters' Expansion will make it possible for the base game to be played in third-person, delivering something closer to the classicResident Evilformula.
Players who already ownResident Evil Villagecan pick up the Winters' Expansion on its own; however, people who have yet to invest in the game have the option to pick up theGold Editionon July 05, 2025. This comes with the base game, the expansion, andResident Evil Re:Verse.
The asymmetrical multiplayer counterpart ofResident Evil Village,Re:Versewas supposed to launch alongside the main game but was delayed due to the plethora of game-breaking bugs found in its public beta test. Capcom has since then announced thatRe:Versewill launch on July 14, 2025 alongsideVillage’s Winters' Expansion.
The multiplayer stages Deathmatches pitting togetherpopular characters from across the franchiseas they fight to get the most points. Fallen heroes even transform into bioweapons that can take out other players. The game will be free for anyone who ownsResident Evil Village.
PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
At June 2022’s State of Play event, Capcom confirmed thatResident Evil 4’s remakeis on the way, announcing a release date ofMarch 24, 2023. The horror game will be coming out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. This project has beensubjected to rumors for a long time, basically since the release of theResident Evil 3remake.
Going by the remake’s trailer, this version might have a darker tone than the 2005 game, and that goes beyond just the photo-realistic visuals shown off so far.RE4follows Leon as he goes on a mission to rescue Ashley, the daughter of the United States president, who is being held captive in a village in Spain. UnlikeResident Evil 2and3, the fourth main game is not that dated visually, with the seventh generation remaster being perfectly acceptable in that department. However,RE4’s gameplay could certainly benefit from some modernization.
Announced: Resident Evil Village VR
At State of Play June 2022, Capcom also revealed thatResident Evil Villagewill be released for PS VR2, following in the footsteps ofResident Evil 7. While discussions concerning the headset have been picking up steam in recent months, Sony has yet to reveal the headset’s release date.
AsRE7is one of the best VR experiences on Sony’s current headset, there is a lot of hype surroundingVillage’s potential. Capcom has confirmed that the port will cover the full game, introducing a new way to play through this solid entry in the publisher’s storied franchise.Villageis a bit more action-oriented thanRE7, but the eighth mainline entry still has plenty of genuine scares and terrifying locations, both of which should be enhanced when presented in virtual reality.
Rumor: Resident Evil Outbreak/Outrage/Revelations 3
Capcom’s data breach from last year revealed severalResident Evilgames that are currently in development. One that’s intended to release afterResident Evil Villageis something calledResident Evil Outbreak. Aside from a Q4 2021 release window, nothing else was included in the leak. AlthoughResident Evil Outbreakwas a no-show at E3 2021, multiple industry insiders have revealed promising details about the game, which makes this leak all the more legitimate.
The notableResident Evilinsider Dusk Golem was the first to go into details. According to him,Resident Evil OutbreakisResident Evil Revelations 3, featuring a returning Rebecca Chambers as the main protagonist, withLeon S. Kennedy rumored to be also a playable character. The game could also be a timed Nintendo Switch exclusive. This would fit theRevelations 3rumor as that subseries started out on the Nintendo 3DS, and its episodic format would complement the Switch’s portability.Revelationsand its sequel are also available on the Switch.
This project has also gone by the title ofResident Evil Outrage.
Rumor: Biohazard Apocalypse
Biohazard Apocalypseis thenextResident Evilgame in line, according to the leaked report, and is scheduled to release in Q3 2023. Now, this rumor has not garnered too much steam since its original leak, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, Capcom will eventually release aResident Evil 9, and it wouldn’t be surprising at all if the company is already working on the project; consequently, there is a chance thatApocalypseis the game’s codename.
Biohazardis the Japanese name for theResident Evilseries, so it could be that this title is exclusive to Japan. The chances of that happening is pretty slim asResident Evilhas garnished a massive global audience in the last two decades.Resident Evil Villagebecame the fastest-selling game in the franchise, and it’s unlikely for Capcom to hinder its own momentum by makingBiohazard Apocalypseexclusive to Japan.
Rumor: Resident Evil: Hank
Resident Evil Hankis the last of the leakedResident Evilgamesthat surfaced, though it won’t be reportedly seeing daylight until Q4 2024. It could very well be referring to Hunk, the enigmatic mercenary that first appeared inResident Evil 2. The allegedResident Evil Hankcould finally explore this mysterious yet popularREcharacter, though it will be a while before fans get any sort of info on this project.
