Not much is still known about thePS5thus far, but we have learned about some of the next generation games coming to the next PlayStation. Surprisingly, fans know more about the actual games coming out for the system now than the console itself. Obviously with Sony’s unconventional approach to revealing its latest console, paired with some of the economic issues facing the world today, have made the ninth console generation’s hype cycle a bit more extraordinary in a lot of ways.
Along with several confirmed third-party games, there’s plenty of exciting exclusives already announced and confirmed for thePS5. Here’s a list of the known exclusives so far, along with some rumored titles headed exclusively to the PS5.
“Looter-Slasher” Godfall
The first officially confirmed title for PS5,Godfallis a PlayStation-exclusive (also coming to PC) set to release this Holiday 2020. Likely a launch game along with the system itself,Godfallis described as a “looter-slasher"all about high fantasy combat and legendary weapons and armor. The game has seen several comparisons toDestiny, with the main loop of the game becoming the pursuit of legendary weapons/armor paired with an apocalyptic hero’s journey. Players take on the role of a member of some type of Knight’s Order, protectors who are instructed to defend the world’s realms split up into the earth, water, air, fire, and spirit regions. The game centers around third-person melee and magic battles, where solo knights or up to three players can work cooperatively to play through missions and pursue loot. Fans of MMO-like games and fantasy-themed combat should keep their eye on this game.
Bluepoint Studios' Next Project
Still shrouded in mystery, a project in developmentwith Bluepoint Studios has been confirmed for the PS5. Bluepoint Studios is the same team behind the many remasters that came to PS4 in the last few years, likeUncharted: The Nathan Drake Collectionand theShadow of the Colossusremaster. President of Bluepoint Marco Thrush confirmed in an interview with Wired that the next new project was for next gen consoles, alluding to the project being one of Bluepoint’s most ambitious projects. Many assumed aDemon’s SoulsorLegend of Dragoonremake was on the way given its remaster pedigree and some previous teases, but now it seems its next title will be something grand and completely unique.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Next Episodes
While theFinal Fantasy 7 Remake’s first episode has been rumored to come to PS5,as well as other platforms like PC, subsequent episodes will almost certainly continue PlayStation’s timed-exclusivity of the game.Final Fantasy 7has had a full re-imagining in the form ofFF7 Remake, bringing Cloud and the gang back for one last ride in stunning detail. The episodic remake is a world-spanning RPG revitalized with modern game design, as many aspects of the original game are improved whilst still keeping to the original game’s spirit. While fans haven’t received any information stating otherwise, subsequent episodes will almost certainly come out for PS5 exclusively alongside PS4 releases. Once this timed-exclusivity is up, the game may release for additional platforms later on, but nothing has been confirmed for other platforms.

PS5 Rumors After Coronavirus
Unfortunately, with the nature of Covid-19 affecting the gaming industry in a variety of ways,The Last of Us 2has also become a victim of many of these effects.The Last of Us 2was originally coming to PS4 on May 29, but has been delayed indefinitely due to complications with Covid-19. Players would reprise the roles of Joel and Ellie in the survival adventure, continuing many years after the first game’s conclusion.The Last of Us 2has been delayed indefinitely, which has lead to some speculation that the game would be moved to PS5 as well as PS4.
Marvel’sSpider-Manon PS4 set the bar high for licensed superhero games for the future. If it wasn’t obvious enough, players took on the role of Spider-Man in New York City in a superhero adventure with high production value. Used to be that licensed games had an unshakeable stigma of being mediocre cash grabs, butSpider-Manreceived the love and attention needed to make a proper superhero game. Nowleaks and rumors of a sequel are backing upSpider-Man’s secret endingas a confirmation that a sequel is indeed on the way for PS5.
Along those same lines, anotherPS4 game that could be making the jump to PS5 isGhost of Tsushima. One of the holdouts this year that has yet to receive any kind of delay, the samurai adventure is still set to release on May 18, 2025. Though there’s been no official announcements by developer Sucker Punch studios on the matter, it’s hard not to imagineGhost of Tsushimais facing similar bottlenecks with shelter-in-place orders still in effect around the world. As more and more games are delayed due to Covid-19, concerned fans are understandably looking to Sucker Punch to see if they’ll be able to hit their announced release date. This one’s a bit of a stretch, but depending on how far back the game is delayed, a possible PS5 release may be considered.
Most recently, there was a rumor posted aboutaHorizon Zero Dawntrilogy apparently in development, likely coming exclusively to PS5 if true. According to the rumor, one sequel was already in development not long afterHorizon Zero Dawn’s release, but now it seems plans have expanded to entire trilogy ofHorizongames. Despite the originalHorizon Zero Dawncoming to PC later this year, the game was an exclusive to PS4 for the majority of the console’s life cycle.
Another big contender isGod of War 2which has found itself the subject of a many-a-rumor proven false now, but that doesn’t mean it’s not in development. On the heels of the first’s success, there’s really no way it isn’t. Other rumored titles (that wouldn’t be exclusive) includeGrand Theft Auto 6, UFC 4, Starfield, The Elder Scrolls 6, Silent Hill,and far, far more.
The PS5 should see its full console reveal relatively soon, and assuming Sony follows in the PS4 reveal’s footsteps, there’ll be a slew of game trailers to come along with it. The aforementioned games are already interesting prospects for the console’s lineup, so the PS5’s future should be very promising.
