In Game Rant’s interviewwithMafia: Definitive Edition’scomposer, Jesse Harlin, he told us that one of the largest improvements made in the remake went into the development of its soundtrack. It is worth remembering that Harlin was also behind the blues music fromMafia 3. However, Hangar 13 saw it fit to approach the soundtrack to orchestral music. When asked why the huge change is sound, Harlin stated that they wanted to get into the characters' heads, and because most of them came from Italy and were born at the end of the 19th century, Harlin and his team decided that orchestral music is the best fit for the game.
Moreover, Harlin told Game Rant that during the development of the game’s soundtrack, the teamtried to steer clear from any music related to the mafia genreas seen in pop culture like theGodfather. In the end, Harlin revealed he hopes the soundtrack will help with the immersion of players in the upcoming game.
