While plot details are thin at the moment, we do know that theObi-Wan Kenobiseries will take place sometime between the prequels and the original trilogy. During the backstage press conference, McGregor also explained thatObi-Wan Kenobiwill employ “new technology"and that making the series was a “different experience than making the original three films.” This makes sense considering the impressive new visual effects techniques used to create Disney’s first live-actionStar Warsseries,The Mandalorian.

McGregor’s portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi is widely regarded by the fanbase as being one of the highlights of Lucas' controversial prequel trilogy. No matter where you stand on those films, it’s easy to agree that McGregor’s performance as the Jedi Master is outstanding. For many, he’s thedefinitive version of Obi-Wan Kenobi, so it’s nice to hear from McGregor himself that he is not only excited for the series but that he believes the show will not disappoint the fans.

Star Warshas always had a tricky relationshipwith prequels, and the newObi-Wan Kenobiseries will inevitably be delving into the past of a well-established universe. Hopefully, McGregor, Chow, and the rest of the cast and crew can deliver a satisfying conclusion to the Obi-Wan Kenobi saga, as this will likely be the last time the character appears in live-action.

Obi-Wan Kenobialso stars Joel Edgerton, Maya Erskine, Rupert Friend, Moses Ingram, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kan, Simone Kessell, Kumail Nanjiani, Bonnie Piesse, Benny Sadie, and Indira Varma.
