There are lots of things players need to keep an eye on while playingFallout 76.They need to keep their health up, watch that their weapons and armor pieces don’t break, andkeep stocked up on enough junkto craft and repair things. Another thing that players need to manage is their stash weight.
Players can store 1200 lbs worth of stuff in their stash box. While this sounds like a lot, it soon fills up. Managing stash weight is a big part of the game. While hoarding everything may seem like a good idea, players can find themselves running out of space very quickly.
Remove Mods From Weapons & Armor Pieces
Weapon and armor mods can add weight to an item.For example, a standard fixer weighs roughly 10 lbs. But if it has the stabilized stock mod attached, then its weight increases by around 1 lb. If you havea few weaponsor armor pieces that you want to hang onto but aren’t going to use any time soon, then it may be worth removing any attached mods before storing them in your stash box.
While doing this may end up costing you some materials to rebuild the mods further down the road, the stash weight savings are worth it. If you have 10 or so weapons or armor pieces with weighty mods attached, then you could end up losing out on a fair amount of space in your stash box.
Hand In Scrip By Weight
Most players will find themselvesknee-deep in scripafter a few weeks of playing. While this sounds like a good thing, if you have too much, then you’ll run out of storage space. Every day, players can hand in up to 500 scrip at a Legendary Exchange Machine. Instead of grabbing random scrip items out of your stash box,it’s worth sorting everything out by weight.
Things like missile launchers and Power Armor pieces tend to be very weighty items. If you sort out your scrip items by their weight, then you’re able to hand in all of your heaviest items first. Try not to hand in items with lightweight or weightless effects until you’ve gotten rid of all your heavier legendary pieces.
Watch Out For Misc
Many players tend to ignore the misc section in their stash box. While most miscellaneous items don’t weigh anything, there are a few items that do. Since the miscellaneous section is easy to forget about,you may have several pounds of unnecessary items taking up space.Some of the misc items that weigh something can be seen below:
There are also event/quest items like Bolton Greens Place Settings and Mainframe Cores that players may accidentally end up hoarding. It’s worth taking a look at the miscellaneous section of your stash box to remove any items that you may not need or want. Sort the items out by weight to make this easier.
Sell Unnecessary Items
If you don’t have aFallout 1stsubscription, then hanging onto ammo that you don’t use probably isn’t the best idea. While ammo doesn’t weigh a lot in small quantities, it adds up pretty fast.
Selling your unwanted ammo can help to reduce your stash weightand increase the amount of caps you have. For the standard ammo types, like 10mm and .45 rounds, sell them for 1 cap each in your vendor. As for rarer ammo types like Ultracite Ammo and Plasma Cores, sell them for a little more. Just try not to overprice them because items that are beingsold in your CAMP Vendorsstill take up weight in your stash box.
Break Down Junk
Those who don’t have aFallout 1stsubscription will need to store all of their junk inside the stash box. This can feel like an impossible task, mainly due to how weighty certain junk items can be.
When interacting with your stash box, there’s an option that will transfer all of your junk directly into your stash box. Alwaysbreak down your junk itemsinto their core components before transferring your junk into your stash box.Junk items weigh considerably more when they haven’t been broken down to their core components.
Perks Don’t Work Inside A Stash Box
There are lots of weight-reduction perks inFallout 76.From Thru-Hiker to Bandolier, these perks can help players manage their weight while they travel around Appalachia.Whilethese perks are great, they don’t work inside the stash box.
For example, if you are using rank 3 of the perk Ordnance Express, then your explosives will weigh 90% less while you carry them. However, if you transfer those items to your stash box, then they will go back to weighing the full amount that they’d normally weigh.
Be Careful When Scrapping Crops
When you scrap somethingin your CAMP, if you don’t have a Scrapbox, then all of the items you break down will end up in your stash box. This is fine for things like wood and steel, but if you scrap crops, thenthe actual fruit or vegetable will automatically be stored in your stash box.
Food and vegetables spoil. So, if you scrap a bunch of crops and then leave them in your stash box, you’ll end up with a lot of spoiled fruit and vegetables that take up unnecessary space. Be sure to empty the food and drink section in your stash box after you scrap crops.
Don’t Hoard Plans
A plan doesn’t typically weigh a lot.Most plans have a weight of 0.25 lbs.This isn’t really an issue. However, keep in mind that 100 plans will weigh around 25lbs. Once you have learned a plan, the only things you can do with a duplicate are sell them if they are able to be traded, drop them, or give them away.
If you aren’t sure how much a particular plan is worth, then you can use websites likeFed76to gain a rough idea of a plan’s value. Sell any known plans in your CAMP Vendors for some extra profit. Keeping known plans in your stash box is rarely a good idea.
Power Armor Chassis
Power Armor Chassis can be used to help those who have lots of scrip sitting in their stash box. As mentioned in a previous entry,Power Armor piecesare pretty heavy items. Pieces can range from 10 lbs to upwards of 19 lbs.Power Armor Chassis weigh 10lbs each.A Power Armor Chassis can hold a full set of Power Armor.
If you take all of the individual Power Armor pieces that you may have in your stash box and load them onto a few Power Armor Chassis, you can reduce the weight in your stash box by a considerable amount. When it’s time to turn them in for scrip, simply remove the pieces from the chassis and scrap the chassis.
Use Mule Characters
Each account can have up to 5 different characters. If your main character is weighed down by scrip items, junk, or anything else that’s tradable, then it may be a good idea to create a mule character.
Ask a trusted friend to hold all of your excess items that are weighing down your main character. Then, switch to a fresh character and have your friend give that character all of the items you don’t need. Since you can have up to 5 characters on the same account,you’ll have a total of 6000 lbs of stash weight storage across your characters.
Fallout 1st Trial
Those who don’t want to pay for aFallout 1stsubscriptionshould take advantage of Bethesda’s freeFallout 1sttrials. This happens once or twice a year.Bethesda will grant all players a trial week to sample some of the perks that come with aFallout 1stsubscription.
You’ll gain access to a Scrapbox and an Ammo Storage Box during the trial period. Load up all of your junk and ammo into these boxes throughout the trial period. While you won’t be able to place more items in these boxes once the trial has ended, anything that you place into the containers during the trial will remain in there. You’ll be able to take things out whenever you like, without requiring aFallout 1stmembership.
