NetherRealm Studios’Mortal Kombat 11has been an incredibly successful entry for the long-time fighting game staple, continuing to draw in players with new DLC characters and story expansions.NetherRealm job listings have hinted at next-genMortal KombatandInjusticegames, and British graphic artist XboxPope has taken it upon himself to see what a limited-edition PlayStation 5 would look like if it had aMortal Kombatskin.
Created as a sort of fan request to NetherRealm and series creator Ed Boon, XboxPope’s PS5 concept is primarily amber-gold and black, showcasing theMortal Kombatinsignia and a more stylized, realistic version of the dragon. It also has glowing orange highlights within the interior of the console and on theDualSense controller, which has haptic feedbackand other unique features.

While XboxPope has a history of creating console design concepts, notably for modern-day consoles and the Xbox Series X, he began to create PlayStation 5 concepts soon after its official design was unveiled during Sony’s Future of Gaming livestream event in June. The first piece he created was aspecial-edition PS5 concept forGhost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch Production’s newest PS4-exclusive title releasing this Friday.
This graphic artist is not the only one who has been working on PS5 designs since Sony unveiled its next-generation hardware. Around the time of the Future of Gaming livestream, professional wrestler and YouTuber Alex Mason shared a concept for aPS5 modeled afterDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, prominently displaying Goku on the side.
Though it seems likely NetherRealm will be working on new games for both Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles, the continual popularity ofMortal Kombat 11suggests it will still be relevant until they release, though no announcements have been made as far as possible next-generation upgrades go. During a recent interview, Boon also talked about how theNetherRealm Studios is working on new projectsthat won’t be seen for years while continuing to developMortal Kombat.
During that same interview, Boon hinted at trouble working on DLC for the game, specifically trying to addEvil Dead’s Ash Williams as a new fighter. Whether this or other content is in development forMortal Kombat 11, or a next-generationMortal Kombatgame, XboxPope’s console design offers a fun glimpse into what a high-profile future release for the series could look like.
