Square Enix releasedFinal Fantasy 13way back in 2009, but fans continue to express their appreciation for the title and its spin-offs. For example, two cosplayers recently went to a convention to show off their impressive Lightning and Lumina cosplays.

Cosplayers Rion and Yukinko joined hundreds of other fans at the World Cosplay Summit 2021 in Nagoya, Japan. The cosplayers attended the convention dressed as Lightning and Lumina fromFinal Fantasy 13. The two characters' journey together was teased inFinal Fantasy 13and led to a dramatic conclusion inFinal Fantasy 13-3: Lightning Returns.

Both Rion and Yukinko are in nearly complete cosplays, with Yukinko noting in a recent Twitter thread that she wasn’t wearing Lumina’s shoulders and sharp-legged black armor due to the risk of injury. According to Yukinko, she attended the event without attaching them, but she has the completed set of armor at home.

Both cosplayers are fittingly sporting light-pink hair in order to properly represent both Lightning and Lumina. Rion keeps a stern face as she poses, just as Lightning kept a strong composure throughoutFinal Fantasy 13and its spin-offs. Since Lumina resembles Lightning’s deceasedsister inFinal Fantasy 13-3, it isn’t surprising that the two cosplayers look like they could be sisters as well.

Rion came to the World Cosplay Summit armed with a replica of one of the weapons inLightning’sFinal Fantasy 13arsenal. Her shoulder armor is seemingly less dangerous, as the duo are able to go back-to-back without any issue. Rion fittingly had a red and white cape which was complimented by more red clothing going down her arms.

Rion and Yukinko are both fittingly wearing gloves, though the Lightning cosplayer’s gloves are more combat-ready. Although she’s missing parts of the armor, Yukinko’s Lumina cosplay still looks like theFinal Fantasy 13sequelcharacter. The cosplay features black feathers mirrored by blue feathers, a black lacy glove that extends down most of her left arm, and a chest piece that could block Lightning’s weapon.

The World Cosplay Summit 2021 took place on August 7 and 8 and new cosplay champions were crowned during the event. Many participants entered the cosplay championship through digital means due to the ongoing pandemic, while some other cosplayers like Rion and Yukinko were able to attend the event in person. Although Rion and Yukinko weren’t able to secure the 2021 Grand Champion award, the winners were another duo that cosplayed as Biggs and Jessie fromFinal Fantasy 7 Remake. While they weren’t victorious, Rion and Yukinko’s work is amazing, and it is nice to see them getting some well-deserved praise.

Final Fantasy 13is available right now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
