At the end of the broadcast, creative director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed thata demo ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthwould launchthat same day.

But, the February 6 demo will not be the only one forFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth. On social media, game director Naoki Hamaguchi reminded players who missed the February 6 State of Play that a second demo forFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthwould launch on February 21 as a free update to the current demo, which allows players to experience the infamous “Nibelheim flashback” set five years before the game. However, Hamaguchi said that completing the Nibelheim flashback will be required for players to start the second demo. Hamaguchi stated that the second demo will not haveprogress to carry over, but it will take players to a condensed version of the Junon area. Between combat, mini-games, and story elements, it remains to be seen what the Junon demo will cover.

In the Nibelheim flashback demo, Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth climb the perilous Mt. Nibel and investigate a faulty Mako reactor built near the village of Nibelheim. The demo serves as a gameplay and combat tutorial forFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and shares some pivotal plot points that showSephiroth’s descent to madnessfollowing discoveries made at the Mako reactor. Both the flashback and the demo end with Sephiroth’s iconic burning of Nibelheim.

As one of the most anticipated titles of 2024, it is no surprise thatFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthis a massive gamein both scope and content. Only time will tell how the story’s events will play out compared to the originalFinal Fantasy 7.
