During the February 25 PlayStationState of Play, Square Enix aired a new trailer announcing thatFinal Fantasy 7 Remakewould be getting a PS5 upgrade called “Intergrade,” and thatIntergradewould introduce a new chapter to the game focused on the classic fan-favorite character Yuffie. She and someone named Sonon Kusakabe, who’s a brand-new member of theFinal Fantasy 7universe, will be working together to infiltrate Midgar and steal powerful Materia in the name of Wutai.
As a result of this recent reveal, Yuffie has taken center stage for Square Enix’s promotion of the upcomingFinal Fantasy 7 RemakePS5 upgrade. Over on itsFinal Fantasy 7 RemakeTwitter account, the developer released three new screenshots of Yuffie in one of the new outfits she’ll be wearing throughout theIntergradestoryline and beyond, possibly. These shots show her off in the patchwork Moogle outfit she sported in theIntergradetrailer, letting fans see what she looks like both up close and afar.

The originalFinal Fantasy 7 Remakedidn’t have any sort of features that allowed players to change the clothes of their avatar character in-game. Instead, it gave the players choices that affected their outfits in Chapter 9, a specific occasion. With this in mind, it’s likely that Yuffie’s Moogle outfit will only be wearable during a specific point in her new chapter. That said,Intergradewill add new features to the game, so switching outfits — at least for Yuffie — could be a new addition.
Since Square Enix is giving Yuffie some screenshots, it’s likely herIntergradepartner-in-crime, Sonon Kusakabe will get some soon too. As a new character, not much is known about Sonon, and screenshot releases are a good way for Square Enix to change that, if only a little. Just like it did with othernewFinal Fantasy 7characters— and even for Yuffie this time around — Square Enix can add little descriptions to their screenshot tweets that give snippets on who the subject character is.
Overall, Square Enix certainly took many people by surprise withFinal Fantasy 7 RemakeIntergrade’s introduction of Yuffie. Most players didn’t expect her to make an official appearance until the second part ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remakelaunched or, at the very least, until promotion for the game got underway. Knowing she’ll be one of the originalFinal Fantasy 7characters thatRemakechooses to expand upon certainly has many fans happy. It’ll be interesting to see how Sonon enhances her story.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergradelaunches June 10, exclusively for PS5.
