Summary
Fortnitehas collaborated with countless creative figures over the years. Brie Larson has featured within the game, while WWE Superstars-turned-actors John Cena and The Rock have also featured. Streamers like Ninja have received skins within the game, whilemusicians like Ariana Grandehave gotten skins as well as full-on concerts within the battle royale title. This final category of celebrities will soon be growing larger with the addition of Eminem, as the highest-selling rapper of all time will be coming to the game in skin form while also performing music. However, the Eminem crossovers do not have to stop there.
Regardless of whether Marshall Mathers is gearing up for an album promotion tour or performing inFortnitefor fun, he could easily appear in another game down the road. While having an over-the-top concert like what fans are expecting to see inFortnitemay not be on the table for a different crossover, skins certainly would, and Eminem’s prior working relationship with one particular franchise would make for an ideal partnership. The series in question is none other thanCall of Duty, as there are a few reasons why Eminem appearing in Activision’s record-setting FPS after hisFortniteteam-up would make sense.
Why a Call of Duty Eminem Crossover Feels Like a No-Brainer
Eminem and Call of Duty Have Worked Together Before
Eminem’s history withtheCall of Dutyseriesis extensive, going back to the originalCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2in 2009. The song “‘Till I Collapse” fromThe Eminem Showwas used in the background of one of the game’s trailers, providing the perfect backdrop for the action featured during its runtime. Then, in 2013’sCall of Duty: Ghosts, “Survival” fromThe Marshall Mathers LP 2was used to promoteCall of Duty: Ghosts, with Eminem even releasing a music video for the track that featured the skull masks and insignia from the game.
Things came full circle this year whenCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3reused “‘Till I Collapse”for its multiplayer trailer. A fitting decision considering that the game’s multiplayer is built around nostalgia and features remade maps from the originalModern Warfare 2, hearing the same Eminem song used to promote those maps over a decade ago once again will likely have many fans reminiscing about their younger years. With Eminem promoting three differentCall of Dutygames, it is incredibly odd that an official skin that lets players control the Hall-of-Fame rapper has not been released.
Call of Dutyhas already featured multiple rappers within its games, making it even stranger that the artist it regularly collaborates with is still in need of a skin.Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and 21 Savage all have skins withinCall of Dutyfollowing the 50 Years of Hip-Hop Celebration, so Eminem would not feel out of place in the slightest.
Eminem is More Suitable For an M-Rated Series
To be clear, there is nothing wrong with theEminem andFortnitecrossover, as it has produced some neat skins like aMusic to be Murdered By-themed outfit and will surely lead to an epic concert. However, it is strange to see Eminem depicted in a game with a cartoony art style where players can fight as a giant Banana and do a number of silly dances. Given the mature subject material covered in his music, it would have made more sense to see Slim Shady in an M-rated military shooter where swearing, blood, and violence are on the table. An Eminem Operator could feel a bit more special than aFortniteskin, too, as he could provide some entertaining dialogue referencing his music. As fun as theFortnitecollaboration is, it is a bit surprising sinceCall of Dutyfeels like a more natural fit for the rapper, so hopefully that collaboration also happens so fans can get the best of both worlds.
