Fortnitehas received various new updates and events that expand the gameplay, content, and overall player engagement with the game. This includesthe big Galactus eventadding Marvel heroes and villains to the game to the recent 15.10 performance update. Now there’s a new update to add to the growing list.
Fortnitehas a new update that will bring the game’s already dynamic visuals even higher with a 120 FPS Mode.Fortnitepreviously received next-gen upgrades with the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The upgrades brought the visuals to 4K resolution and 60 FPS. Epic Games is capitalizing on the next-gen hardware to provide better visual performance to both the Battle Royale and Creative modes.

According to the Verge, the new update will allow players to enable the 120 FPS Mode inFortnite. However, the new visual performance mode does come with its fair share of trade-offs. For starters, while using the 120 FPS Mode, the next-gen 4k resolution will be capped on the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Which will drop the visual quality down to 1440p on the next-gen consoles.
It will also reduce the graphical settings for the game including shadows, post-processing, and streaming distances. The same applies to enabling the 120 FPS Mode on the Xbox Series S, where the resolution drops to 1080p resolution and reduces graphical settings as well. However, Epic Games did state thatthe Xbox Series Swill use 1200p resolution as the default visual setting for allFortnitegame modes going forward.
The new 120 FPS Mode does fall in line with the recent performance updates Epic Games has been planning to make to the game. The before-mentionedFortnite15.10 updatelaunched yesterday and added a performance upgrade to the game that would boost frame rates for players with low-end hardware. Which would add high-resolution textures to the game, but it came with a sizable 23GB download file size.
Part of the update is thePC Performance Mode forFortnite, designed to smooth out the game’s visual performance for PC players. Especially for players without the best computer setup or hardware. The PC Performance Mode automatically updates the in-game settings instead of requiring players to manually change them. It was released in an alpha state so PC players could test out the new mode for themselves.
With these new updates, Epic Games continues to improve the visual performance of the game for both consoles and PC. Even withFortnite’snew performance updates, players on all platforms can still look forward to the upcoming Winterfest holiday event to enjoy later this December.
