It’s been over a month since the launch ofPokemon Legends: Arceus, and gamers everywhere are still uncovering hidden secrets and funny easter eggs. Some of these unexpected discoveries are the result of glitches or the game’s AI doing odd things, but others appear to be scripted. Recently, onePokemon Legends: Arceusfan drew attention to a clip showcasing what seems to be a very socially awkward Spheal.

Spheal is an Ice/Water dual-type Pokemon that looks like a round blue and cream seal, complete with a set of tiny walrus tusks. It was introduced in theGen IIIPokemongames, but it also makes an appearance inPokemon Legends: Arceus. The open-world elements of this title allow Pokemon to pop up in expected places at times, and one Spheal appears to take advantage of this.

Redditor lyss_blyss shared a short 20-second-long clip showcasing a conversation theplayer has with Adaman, the leader of the Diamond clan. At the beginning of the video, thePokemon Legends: Arceusplayer and Adaman are shown standing by the water and a Spheal bounces up to them. The Pokemon proceeds to sit beside the pair, looking up at Adaman, until Adaman begins talking about a new form for Dialga. When the player is given the option to say “Whoa!,” the Spheal makes a loud purring noise and claps its flippers.

After clapping, the Spheal purrs againand then rolls quickly out of frame, as though it has become embarrassed and is fleeing before anyone can notice. This led lyss_blyss to dub it the socially awkward Spheal. Social awkwardness can take many forms, of course, but one of the most relatable variants is a person saying something they immediately regret and then trying to leave the conversation. It’s unclear if this Spheal was meant to mirror similar behaviors, but its actions do bear an odd similarity to this pattern of social awkwardness.

As of writing, it appears that otherPokemonfans are enthusiastic about thisadorably awkward Spheal moment. Several other users reported that they also encountered this shy little Pokemon during the same moment, which would suggest that the scene is scripted. However, the way it plays out appears to evoke the feeling of a Pokemon randomly walking into the scene and playing some cute animations. When informed, lyss_blyss declared that this meant all Spheals were just socially awkward and prone to escaping from conversations with people, a cute if non-canon label for the creatures.
