Summary
AGod of Warfan just shared their attempt at making a sculpture of Kratos out of clay, which fell short in a hilarious fashion. Ever since its initial run in the 2000s, theGod of Warfranchise has inspired countless fans to express their love for the series through mediums such as cosplay and art.
Although these expressions may not always prove to be accurate to the source material, the fandom always finds a way to celebrate when fellow fans represent their love for the series. For instance, faithful gender-swapped cosplays of Kratoshave been all the rage since the first game hit store shelves in 2005, peaking in popularity around the time Kratos' Nordic adventure kicked off in 2018. As such, when Reddit user whitestargammer uploaded their attempt at creating a clay sculpture of Kratos onto the platform, fans reveled in the silliness of the attempt in the comments. Although the sculpture seemed to be an attempt at recreating Kratos' older appearance from recent titles, some argued that “Claytos” looked more likeDave Bautista’s Drax fromGuardians of the Galaxy. One other commenter showed confusion over the sculpture, believing it to be depicting Idris Elba.
Tellingly, despite how far in appearance whitestargammer’s “Claytos” was to Kratos' portrayal in Santa Monica Studio’s iconic series, fans still celebrated the effort. The caption on the post may have had something to do with it, though, with whitestargammer calling the sculpture “one of the most cursed things [they’ve] made.” In the realm of fan art, a little self-awareness seems to go a long way. That is, unless the level of craft skills that went into making the fan art is clear as day, as seen in afan-made rendition of Mjolnir made entirely out of yarn.
With Kratos' journey seemingly reaching a fulfilling conclusion inGod of War: Ragnarok, these silly, but ultimately, very loving tributes to the character are likely to continue emerging within the community as the character enjoys what may be his last ride into the sunset. That isn’t to say thatGod of Waris going anywhere, though. With rumors floating about thatGod of War: Ragnarokmay be getting a half-sequelsometime in the future, reminiscent of 2020’sMarvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, fans might be seeing more “Claytreus” sculptures down the line instead.
