Much like other gacha games, it features a large cast of playable characters/units that players can summon.
One of these units is Clarisse, a young alchemic genius who serves a powerful support role inGranblue Fantasy. She can inflict debuffs to foes and dispel any buffs that have been cast by the opponent. She’s described as a straightforward and easy for beginners to use in the game. This role extends to her Christmas-themed variant, which has a unique set of voice lines separate from her vanilla version. It turns out that the latest single from American electronic music duo The Chainsmokers utilizes one of these voice clips.

This voice clip was spotted in the latest single from the duo, “I Love U” which is a part of their newest albumSo Far So Good. The song starts off with a cheery Japanese voice, who is cheering the listener on with “Ike Ike Dan-cho, Ganbare Ganbare Dan-cho!” ManyGranblue Fantasyplayers noticedthis voice clip to be from Clarisse’s Christmas variation from 2016, which translates to “Go go Captain, hang in there, Captain!” This sample repeats at least one more time in the song itself.
This discovery had left the game’s fan base flummoxed, as a popular song like this was sampling from a relatively nichegacha game likeGranblue Fantasy. As revealed by Andrew “Drew” Taggart from The Chainsmokers on the duo’s Discord server, this sample was discovered by music director Matt McGuire. According to Drew, this sample was found while the team was watching anime likeDeath NoteandFood Wars. He also stated that it was the other member of the duo, Alexander “Alex” Pall, who made the call when it came to putting the sample into the song.
This news was such a surprise that it even caught the attention of theofficial Japanese Twitter account ofGranblue Fantasy, who acknowledged that the song samples Clarisse’s voice clip. The tweet even encourages fans to take a listen to the song and links the official lyrics video from The Chainsmokers as well. This is an odd discovery to be sure, with many baffled but enjoying how this voice clip was integrated.
