Halo 4is a monumental part of the series' history, providing very heart-felt and poignant portrayals of Master Chief and Cortana that were highlights of the game. For Cortana specifically,Halo 4is one of the character’s most defining appearances, with one fan immortalizing her as a life-sized statue made completely out of paper.
343 Industries had massive shoes to fill when it took over theHalofranchise after Bungie’s departure to createDestiny, and the studio came out swinging withHalo 4. WhileHalohas always been pretty narratively driven,Halo 4attempted to humanize Master Chief and Cortana’s relationship in a way that wasn’t previously explored. Most players really enjoyed this aspect of the game, though many also criticizedHalo 4for its injection of high sci-fi loreinto the franchise, which 343 Industries would continue to do withHalo 5: Guardians. Unfortunately with that title, it did not have Master Chief and Cortana’s partnership at its center to carry the story.

One fan managed to capture the highly detailedHalo 4version of Cortana in a life-sized statue made out of paper. Created by Reddit user sirtankball and posted to theHalosubreddit, the collection of images show the highly detailed statue ofHalo 4Cortana standing in the builder’s kitchen, coming just to the top of their refrigerator. While it captures the character’s meditative and seemingly docile state, those who have playedHalo 4knowing just what Cortana is struggling withduring that game’s campaign.
According to sirtankball, the statue of Cortana took about two weeks to build, though they don’t provide much more detail about how it was constructed. Whether it was a limitation of the format or simply how sirtankball envisioned the piece, Cortana is constructed in a low-polygon state here, with the creases of where the shapes intersect being visible at certain angles.
Sirtankball admits that Cortana’s face doesn’t look quite right to them, blaming it on the low-polygon design of the statue.Cortana’s design inHalo 4is one her most detailed appearances, so reducing the number of polygons is naturally going to prevent it being as fully detailed.
BetweenHalo 4andHalo 5: Guardians, a particular discourse over Cortana’s appearance began questioning its suggestiveness.Halo 5: Guardians' director stated that Cortana is not naked, with the intent being she is wearing a full-body mesh suit, as her models inHalo 1throughHalo 4never gave her private parts. ByHalo 5: Guardiansthough, Cortana was redesigned with a more clearly visible set of clothes on, effectively eliminating the discussion of whether she was nude or not. These traits carried over into the appearances of Cortana and The Weapon inHalo Infiniteas well.
