Summary
UPDATE: Hasbro has released an official statement about Transformers games by Activision. The statement is as follows: “To clarify, comments that suggest TRANSFORMERS games have been lost were made in error. We apologize to Activision and regret any confusion; they’ve been great partners, and we look forward to future opportunities to work together.”
Hasbro has stated that it would want to have some of its Activision-publishedTransformersgames on a service like PC Game Pass. The franchise’s popularity has grown over the years thanks in large part to the slew of movies. Now, withTransformers: Rise of the Beastsin theaters, interest inTransformershas prompted questions on the possibility of classic games making a reappearance.
WhileTransformers: Rise of the Beastshasn’t taken the world by storm, the excitement around the franchise doesn’t appear to be waning, as Hasbro itself has expressed interest in expanding the series. It’s worth noting thatTransformersis no stranger to gaming, with titles dating back to as far as 1985. However, not many of these titles have managed to shine in the same way as some of the other popular IPs might have over the years. But Hasbro believes that some of its earlier games are ripe for making an interesting comeback on modern services.

Back in 2017, Activision’sTransformerslicensing deal with Activision expired and prompted games likeTransformers: DevastationandTransformers: War for Cybertronto be pulled from all digital stores. Commenting on the possibility of the delistedTransformersgames coming back to storefronts, Hasbro expressed excitement in seeing the Activision-published titles on a service like Game Pass. At San Diego Comic-Con 2023, the Hasbro team stated that those games are “an easy Game Pass add” and that the company wants “those games back up for people to have a chance to play.”
However, according to Hasbro, it appears this might not be possible at the moment, as Activision itself is unsure where the games are stored in the publisher’s building. “When a company eats a company that eats a company things get lost, and that’s very frustrating,” the company states further. Nevertheless, withMicrosoft’s pending Activision Blizzard acquisition looking favorable, Hasbro hopes that it might change its luck. While the outcome of the deal may not guarantee the delisted game making a comeback on Game Pass, the company could likely be more inclined to push the games onto its service, particularly considering the appeal of the franchise.
Interestingly, there are already a few titles on the way in the form ofTransformers: EarthSpark - Expeditionfrom Tessera Studios and Splash Damage’sTransformers: Reactivate. The franchise even got theFortnitetreatment with anOptimus Prime skin onFortnite’s Chapter 4 Season 3 Battle Pass. Of course, only time will tell if the franchise gets the AAA video game treatment similar to other franchises likeStar Wars. But the fact that Hasbro is actively interested in revitalizing some of its earlierTransformerstitles is an encouraging sign for gamers.
