WithElden Ringhaving a number of difficult bosses, it is not shocking that different players encounter their own progress-stopping walls. For oneElden Ringfan, Godfrey, First Elden Lord was their wall, and tragedy struck when it looked like they were finally going to defeat them.
According to Reddit user DevoitedSoul, they had been fightingGodfreyfor four hours before their heartbreaking final run. Getting stuck for this long is understandable, though, as Godfrey ranks close to bosses like Radahn, Radagon, and Malenia in terms of difficulty. What makes him so challenging is that his first and second forms are entirely different, as he transforms from a traditional boss into something more unique. As Hoarah Loux, Godfrey unleashes numerous grab attacks, all of which are devastating and tough to dodge.

It was this sudden switch in movesets and a bulky health bar that likely made Godfrey a nightmare for DevoitedSoul, with the boss similar toMalikethin the sense that the second stage requires near perfection or a lot of flasks to complete. After several hours of trying, though, it looked like the Redditor was about to find success. From the very start of the clip, Godfrey’s health bar is incredibly low, with DevoitedSoul able to sneak in a heal before getting grabbed. This quick thinking saved their life, and after healing once more, they closed in on Godfrey to land the final hit.
Unfortunately, it was not meant to be, as the Redditor had anElden Ringmessageappear on their screen as they jumped in the air and swung their weapon. Tragically, they had lost connection as they were landing the final hit on Godfrey. As such, they were sent back to the main menu, robbed out of a win that they had spent four hours trying to get. Had the message happened just seconds later, Godfrey would have been dead, so it makes sense that DevoitedSoul “almost cried” after what happened.
Unsurprisingly, a tragic clip like this performed well with theElden Ringcommunity, bringing in over 11,600 upvotes. In the comments, many players shared their condolences, telling DevoitedSoul they were sorry for what happened and understood their sadness. Others vented their frustrations, reporting similarly annoying disconnects from the game’s servers. Many players wish that the game would just let them keep playing after a disconnect happens, but as pointed out by a few commenters, this is an issue in every FromSoftware game except forDark Souls 2.
Clips like this are proof that disconnects need to be less harmful, so hopefullyFromSoftware’s next gamemakes an adjustment to the way they work. For this poor player that was stuck fighting Godrey for hours, the disconnect could not have been any more devastating.
