The newDeath Knight class is one of the biggest features of the nextHearthstoneset. The Death Knight’s new Corpse mechanic grants them a resource whenever a friendly minion dies, later used to fuel the abilities of certain cards. Their hero power summons a ghoul to charge the opponent before dying at the end of turn, granting them a Corpse in the process. Additionally, Death Knight decks each have three runes that can be assigned to Blood, Frost, or Unholy. Certain Death Knight cards require a certain number of Runes of that type associated with the deck. With three different runes for each deck, players can specialize their Death Knight decks to their playstyle.
If the new class were not exciting enough, there are several other new mechanics and keywords coming withMarch of the Lich King. The Undead minion type is coming to the game, meaning tons of oldHearthstoneminion cards are retroactively getting a new type keyword. Dual-Type minions are also being added to the game as well, so Pirate and Undead creatures who also qualify for other types, like Murloc or Beast, will count as both.
The Reborn mechanic, first featured inSaviors of Uldum, is making its triumphant return inMarch of the Lich King, where it has become an evergreen keyword. The new Manathirst keyword, representing the infamousmana addiction of the Blood Elves inWarcraft, is also coming in the set. This new keyword grants cards an additional ability as long as they have access to a certain amount of mana when they are played.
Hearthstoneis also adding a new type of collectible: Signature cards. These beautiful cards feature special borders and full art, and aresure to delightHearthstonecollectors. These cards can be opened in packs or earned through events, but cannot be crafted.
Players can expect to see reveals of theMarch of the Lich Kingcard set over the next month. Until then, players can log in now to receive the Legendary Sunwell card, the first neutral spell card in the game, and participate in thelimited-time Hallow’s End event inHearthstone.
