Summary
It’s been a short while since leaks surrounding Insomniac’sVenomgame made the rounds, and there has sadly been no new information from the developer about the game. This is understandable since the game is supposedly deep in development, but the roaring success ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2has fans desperate for more information on what is next for the franchise. Fortunately, a perfect opportunity for Insomniac to pull back the curtain on this spin-off is quickly approaching.
As per the December 2023 leaks, Insomniac’sVenomgame is titledVenom: Lethal Protector. This is, of course, subject to change, but even the tentative title implies a lot about what the game may contain. Theleaked roadmap from the ransomware attack on Insomniacalso mentioned that theVenomspin-off is set for a 2025 release. Not only is it nearer than fans may think, but it also affords Insomniac’sVenomgame the golden opportunity for a reveal before 2024 is out, as Venom’s next big movie outing is coming soon.
Insomniac’s Venom Game Being Unveiled Alongside V3: The Last Dance Feels Like a No-Brainer
Given that the leaked Insomniac roadmap points toward a 2025 release, it makes sense forInsomniac’sVenomgame to have a reveal sometime this year. To that end, the Tom Hardy-ledVenom 3: The Last Dance’srelease on July 15, 2025, seems like a golden opportunity for fans to learn more about the upcoming spin-off set in PlayStation’s Spider-Man universe. Both the film and the game are handled by Sony companies and focus on the same character, so it only seems natural for them to lean on one another. Beyond that, they may share other similarities.
Insomniac’sVenomgame is believed to be a setup forMarvel’s Spider-Man 3, the wayMiles Moraleswas forSpider-Man 2. Given thatneither Harry nor Peter have theVenomsymbiote anymore, the next logical step would be for the developer to introduce a new host. Although it does have creative leeway to go for lesser-known hosts, Eddie Brock is the natural choice. Eddie could help flesh out Venom’s anti-hero tendencies in the game universe, creating a world where both the symbiote and Spider-Man co-exist and feel different from one another. This is also highly reflective of theVenom: Lethal Protectorcomic book series’ primary storyline.
Insomniac’s Venom and The Last Dance Could Have a Symbiotic Relationship
It’s confirmed thatEddie Brock and Venomwill take a crucial stand against other symbiotes inLast Dance, whether they have a willing host or not. Though Carnage is supposedly the main threat of Insomniac’s leaked Venom game, the idea of Eddie Brock’s Venom fighting other symbiotes could be a key similarity between the new movie and the upcoming game, helping the latter appeal to fans of the former even more than it normally would.
Even if Eddie Brock is not actually the host of Venom in Insomniac’s game, it would still make sense to hype up a Venom video game project right around the time of the movie’s release, as Venom himself looking similar would still make it a appealing concept.
Given the popularity of Eddie Brock, the character’s introduction seems like a logical step for Insomniac’sVenomgame to take. If that is indeed the plan, attaching a trailer for an Eddie Brock-led video game to the preview lineup for the nextVenommovie seems like a recipe for success. Alternatively, Insomniac can simply show the game off in a dedicated stream or at a PlayStation State of Play once the movie hits theaters. The many fans oftheVenomfilm seriescould be motivated to pick up a PlayStation 5 purely for a chance to play as the character, and withVenom 3: The Last Dancelikely to be a box office success based on the performance of the first two films, marketing the game alongside it could be hugely beneficial for Insomniac.
