Additionally, the teaser serves as an announcement, disclosing to audiences the release of the film’s official trailer, making its appearance during Super Bowl Sunday.

The 30-secondNopeteaser begins showcasing images from Peele’s previous two directorial outings. It’s been nearly three years since Peele’s 2019 filmUsarrived in theaters, so Universal Pictures is setting the stage by reminding audiences of Peele’s impressive and influential work behind the camera. The horrific images fromGet OutandUsare the cornerstones of Peele’s work and have tattooed themselves in the minds of audiences, which is an experience the director looks to replicate in his newest cinematic endeavor. The teaser then maneuvers to the present, showcasing sharp images fromNope, focusing on three main characters, each looking up in horror at the mysterious object hovering in the clouds.
The teaser showsNopestars Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun, and Keke Palmer. This film marks the second time audiences will be fortunate enough to witness the pairing of Peele and Kaluuya. The two previously worked together on the Oscar-nominated filmGet Out. The film earned four nominations at the 2018 Academy Awards but only took home the prize in the Best Original Screenplay category. Unfortunately, Kaluuya failed to win Best Actor, while the film equally came up short in the Best Picture and Best Director categories.Nopewill be Peele’s first work with Oscar-nominated actor Yeun and Palmer, who each look to be incredible additions to a long list of memorable characters from the director.
Nopealso pairs Peele with cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, a notable addition to the project. Hoytema has become Christopher Nolan’s trusted director of photography over the years, having worked with the filmmaker onInterstellar,Dunkirk, andTenet, all of which have earned their fair share of Oscar nominations. The horrific yet mesmerizing beauty embedded in Peele’s work is undeniable, but the addition of Hoytema looks to take things visually to a new level. The director has already crafted some memorable mind-bending moments, but it seems he looks to utilize Hoytema’s talents to implant something even more heinous in the minds of audiences worldwide.
Peele made it clear in 2017 that he wanted to create four social thrillers over the decade, and thus far, he’s done two, with this third one soon to be on the way. His focus centers around horror, but the director’s view on monsters sits in reality, not imagination.Peele sees humans as the scariest things imaginable, which is why his films center around the actions present in society. It will be interesting to see what commentary is present inNope, which the trailer will hopefully unveil once it arrives on Sunday.
