The pink puffball, Kirby, takes center stage inKirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxealongside Meta Knight, King Dedede, and Bandana Waddle Dee as up to four players can play together co-operatively. While these classic characters may be the heart of this upcoming remaster, it’s the game’s secret villain Magolor who seems to be getting much of the attention this time around. With new modes added toKirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxethat feature this villain, fans of Magolor will finally get to experience his story like never before.
There are two new modes added in this edition of the game featuring Magolor. The first is Merry Magoland, a theme park owned and operated by Magolor that features a variety of new and returning sub-games from the series' past for players to enjoy. Announced in therecent Nintendo Direct, the second new mode is titled Magolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler, and it is a post-game campaign that features the villain as a playable character. Both of these modes are a great way to give more attention to one of theKirbyseries' more complex villains who has become a fan-favorite over the years.

Merry Magoland Adds to Magolor’s Whimsy and Charm
It’s become somewhat of a trend now for games to give villains their own amusement parks, and the addition ofMerry Magolandcarries on this tradition.Kirbygames typically feature a variety of sub-games for players to enjoy solo or co-op, but the way in which these games are presented changes from game to game. Making the hub for sub-games a theme park based on the game’s villain is a great way to highlight Magolor’s whimsical nature and love of theme parks, given that he later builds Kirby his own park as an apology.
Not only does this park serve as the home ofsub-games inKirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, but it could be a great source of character development for Magolor. As a mode focused on sub-games, it may not seem like Merry Magoland would add much to the development of the game’s plot. However, the undertones of the mode could be a great way to explore Magolor’s penchant for mischief and his demeanor within the theme park could help demonstrate the villain’s ability to put up a friendly facade when he needs to.
Magolor Epilogue Might Help Players Sympathize with the Villain
Although he is the twist villain with universe-conquering aspirations in the main story ofKirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Magolor shows his complexity as a character by repenting for his crimes and becoming an ally to Kirby in future titles. The newMagolor Epilogueadded to the game seems to take place directly following his defeat during the finale of the main story, with Magolor having lost his powers and journeying to regain them in order to return home. In addition to new gameplay potential, this mode is also a great chance to give players a look at Magolor’s redemption arc.
Since Magolor is now almost powerless, watching him struggle as he seeks to regain his abilities and return home is the perfect way to give the villain a sympathetic spin. Although his future appearances suggest he still may be harboring a dark side, seeing him grapple with defeat would provide an explanation for why he comes to regret his actions and offer Kirby an apology. All of this new content featuring Magolor is a great reason for fans of this villain to revisit aremake of Kirby’s classic Wii adventurein an updated format.
