Following a smaller, yet exciting role in Marvel Studios’Eternals, Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman character raises a lot of questions about what awaits in the MCU’s future. While many fans are looking forward to his next appearance, it’s Harington who is still unsure of when that will even come.
Whitman is a human who works at the Natural History Museum in London as a history professor and is dating the Eternal Sersi (Gemma Chan). InEternals' post-credits scene, after opening an old chest in his classroom inherited from his ancestors, Whitman takes up the valuable family antique, the Ebony Blade, which will set him down the path to become the hero Black Knight in order to rescue Sersi and a few other Eternals from the celestial Arishem.

In a new interview with Zoe Ball on BBC’sThe Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Harington gave an update as towhen Dane Whitman will show up againin the MCU, and judging by his response, it turns out fans won’t know for quite some time. “I’ll have to ask you, because the fans have been asking, what’s the future of Dane Whitman AKA Black Knight? Any more happening? Any things in the diary planned?” Ball asked Harington. “No, not that I know of. It sounds like a very political answer but, I mean, it’s exciting for me because the last film, as anyone who has seen it, kind of sets an idea up that I might go further,” Harington responded.
“So, I’m hoping… But I think whenever you’re answering questions about these things, people point at you and say ‘liar’ as if you know more than other people,” the actor continued. Harington, who began to chuckle, added that he “genuinely has no idea,” and that he’s still “waiting for a call on it.” While Harington may be telling the truth,many fans will still point to Andrew Garfield, as he was forced to lie for months about his surprise role inSpider-Man: No Way Home.
While anEternals 2has not officially been confirmed, there have been many hints that Kevin Feige and the rest of the Marvel Studios team have already begun developing one. From Chan’s comments about Sersi returning to leaked posts potentially revealing Richard Madden’s return as Ikaris as well asDon Lee reportedly gearing up to return as Gilgameshin some sort of Marvel production set to begin this summer, it’s very likely that the group of immortal aliens will return to the big screen some time within the next three years.
Even if it’s still unclear when Harington’s character will show up again, another character and storylineEternals' post-credits scene directly sets up isMahershala Ali’s Blade, considering Ali’s voice found its way into that same scene with Whitman, even if it was off-screen. Now confirmed to star in his own standalone film, the vampire hunter will likely cross paths with Whitman again, while also becoming a sort of mentor to him as he gradually transforms into the legendary swordsman.
