Horror game fans have been waiting onSilent Hillnews ever sinceKonami canceled Hideo Kojima’sSilent Hillsproject. The years have gone by, and all fans have seen fromSilent Hillis new merch and pachinko machines. However, rumors have been swirling the last couple of years that Konami is looking to bring theSilent Hillfranchise back in a big way, and now some of those rumors have been validated.

It’s now been confirmed thatBloober Team is working with Konami. Neither company revealed any games that they may be collaborating on together, but Bloober Team previously teased that it was working on an established horror IP with a “very famous gaming publisher.” Many connected the dots when that comment was made months ago, and so while it’s not outright confirmed that Bloober Team is making aSilent Hillgame, it’s hard to see the project being anything else.

The interesting thing about the Bloober Team and Konami collaboration is that it seemingly lends credibility to old leaks about the newSilent Hillgame and what exactly it may entail. Of course, it could all just be a coincidence and while it’s unlikely, it’s always possible that Bloober Team is working on something else that’s notSilent Hill-related, so fans should keep that in mind before getting their hopes up too high for a series revival.

Bloober Team Silent Hill Game

Months ago, rumors started swirling thatBloober Team was working on aSilent Hillgame, and that’s all but confirmed by the company’s newly-announced partnership with Konami. For those who are unfamiliar with Bloober Team, the studio is primarily known for making horror games, having releasedLayers of Fear, theBlair Witchvideo game adaptation, and most recently, the next-gen exclusive gameThe Medium.

For the most part, Bloober Team has specialized in first-person horror games, with the exception beingThe Medium. Unlike Bloober Team’s previous games,The Mediumis a third-person game that utilizes mostly fixed-camera angles. It plays more like an old-school survival-horror game from the 90s, in a similar vein asSilent Hill, but with various modern touches and quality of life improvements.

The Mediumreviewswere mostly positive at the time of its release, and it stands as one of the most well-received Bloober Team titles to date. However, not all of Bloober Team’s games have exactly been critical darlings, with theLayers of FearandBlair Witchgames releasing to mixed reviews. This has some fans worried that Bloober Team may not be able to doSilent Hilljustice, but those fans shouldn’t get too concerned just yet.

Multiple Silent Hill Games in Development

Back when the rumors first started about Bloober Team making aSilent Hillgame, other leakers claimed that there weremultipleSilent Hillgames in development. Rumors have persisted that Sony is actively working on aSilent HillPS5 exclusive game with Konami, which was expected to be revealed last year. 2020 came and went with no newSilent Hillgame announcement, but that doesn’t mean that the game isn’t in development.

Sony hasn’t held many events lately where it would even showcase its exclusive games, instead focusing on specific titles through State of Plays solely dedicated to games likeHorizon: Forbidden WestandRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart. However, if the rumors are to be believed, that will be changing in the very near future. While Sony skipped E3 2021, rumors and leaks suggest that the company has an E3-equivalent presentation coming sooner rather than later.

Insiders have pointed to anew PlayStation State of Playhappening on Thursday, July 8, though Sony still has yet to confirm its existence. Regardless, there is some evidence that Sony is indeed planning to host an event soon, even if it doesn’t happen on July 8. This includes the ESRB leak ofGhost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, the domain registration for the leakedGhost of Ikishimaexpansion, and comments made at Summer Game Fest.

During the Summer Game Fest kickoff event, fans were treated to the first look atDeath Stranding: Director’s Cut. Adeeper dive intoDeath Stranding: Director’s Cutand what exactly it will entail was promised to be happening within weeks, and it seems like a PlayStation State of Play would be the perfect time to do just that.

If a PlayStation State of Play does happen soon, it could very well be used to finally announce thelong-rumoredSilent HillPS5 exclusive game. Alternatively, it’s possible that theSilent HillPS5 exclusive doesn’t actually exist and the only game in development is the one that’s rumored to be developed by Bloober Team, but that’s doubtful. Unfortunately, all PlayStation fans can do is speculate until Sony, Konami, or any other studio that may be involved breaks the silence on their plans for theSilent Hillfranchise.
