There once was a time whenDead Spacewas one of EA’s premiere franchises. Not only did EA release three main seriesDead Spacegames, but it also developed spin-offs, comic books, novels, and more in an attempt to turn it into a big multimedia franchise. EA was all-in onDead Spacefor awhile, and while the games sold millions of copies, they still fell short of the company’s lofty expectations. This led to EA puttingDead Spaceon ice, and there hasn’t been a new game in the series since 2013.
Fans have been asking for pretty much anythingDead Space-related for years, whether that be aDead Spaceremasteror even a collection of the original trilogy for modern consoles. While the originalDead Spacegames are playable on Xbox through backward compatibility, EA has otherwise not made an effort to bring the titles to newer platforms. However, it seems fans may finally have some newDead Spacecontent to look forward to, as a recent rumor points to aDead Spacerevival game on the horizon.

The rumor originated from GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb, who hinted thatStar Wars: SquadronsstudioEA Motive is developing aDead Spacegame, set to be revealed at the EA Play event on July 22. Since that tease, other publications have reported that EA Motive is indeed revealing a new game at EA Play, and that it will indeed be based on an established IP, though they’ve stopped short of saying it will definitively beDead Space.
That was until a new report by Gematsu, who has “separately heard” that theEA Motive gameis aDead Spacerevival, and that it will be a “reimagining” instead of a sequel. What exactly “reimagining” means forDead Spaceis unclear, but looking at other video game reimaginings may offer some insight.
For example,Ratchet & Clank, the 2016 PS4 game, is billed as a ‘reimagining" of the originalR&Cgame. What this meant was that it effectively remade most of the levels from the original game, but also added in new story content, gameplay features, and fresh levels as well. It’s possible that theDead Spacerevival from Motive will be something similar; it could be a retelling ofIsaac Clarke’s story, while not being afraid to stray off the beaten path.
Of course, this is assuming that EA Motive is indeed developing a newDead Spacegame and that there’s any truth behind these rumors. WithEA Playabout a month away, fans should find out if theDead Spacerumors are true sooner rather than later.
