Universal Pictureshas announced the title and release date for director M. Night Shyamalan’s next film. The film is part of Shyamalan’s ongoing deal with Universal, which has distributed each of his films since 2015’sThe Visit.
According to a post made on the officialUniversal PicturesTwitter account, the film is titledKnock at the Cabin, and it will come out on June 15, 2025. Universal’s original press release announcing the project described it as an “original thriller,” which would explain the promotional video’s mysterious tone.

Shyamalan has revealed multiple detailsabout the film’s production over Twitter. Back in August, he tweeted that he had completed the third draft of its script. He also mentioned that the draft comes in at less than a hundred pages, meaning the total runtime is likely to be around ninety minutes. Earlier this month, he had already begun the storyboarding process.
Shyamalan owes his career to the meteoric success of his 1999 thrillerThe Sixth Sense, which immediately became a pop culture phenomenon due to its notorious plot twist. His later works were progressively less and less well-received, culminating in a string of critical and commercial disasters such asThe Last AirbenderandAfter Earth. His resurgence came as a result of his return to low-budget filmmaking with a series of profitable thrillers such astheUnbreakablesequelsSplitandGlass, all of which he funded entirely by himself.
Fans of Shyamalan will no doubt be excitedforKnock at the Cabin, which is coming out just a year and a half after his previous film,Old. However, his work is still very divisive to outsiders. According to Rotten Tomatoes, exactly 50% ofOld’s critical reviews were positive, with a similarly polarized 53% score from audiences. This didn’t seem to impact the film’s box office, however, as it still made back $90 million on an $18 million budget. And as long as Shyamalan’s films remain profitable, there’s nothing stopping him from continuing to make them.
Oldwas an adaptation of the graphic novelSandcastle, butKnock at the Cabindoesn’t seem to be based on an existing property. Because of that, the only clue to its premise is the cryptic title. However, if it’s anything like Shyamalan’s other work, it’s sure to be a wild ride from start to finish. Whether that’s a good thing or not will ultimately be up to the audience.
Universal Pictures will releaseKnock at the Cabinon July 27, 2025.
