Summary
With the casting for the upcomingLegend of Zeldalive-action movie still up in the air, Machine Gun Kelly, a well-known fan, has thrown his hat in the ring for a chance at the film’s lead role, Link.
The Legend of Zeldais one of Nintendo’s flagship titles, so it didn’t come as a surprise when it was announced earlier in the month thatNintendo was teaming with Sony for a live-action Zelda movieand that it had been in the works for quite some time via the social media account of Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the co-creators of the franchise and a producer on the upcoming adaptation. However, no casting for the project has been announced, likely due to strikes keeping talks from happening.
While fans enjoy a customary round of fantasy casting, one unexpected name has been added to the shuffle as popular rapper-turned-singerMachine Gun Kelly, who recentlyappeared alongside Logan Paul as a WWE2K DLC, indicated his interest in taking on the film’s lead role as Link. Posting to his Instagram stories, the star uploaded a screenshot of an announcement graphic for the upcoming adaptation with a caption that read, “If I don’t play Link we have a problem.” While there has been next to nothing by way of details announced concerning the scripting or casting of the upcoming film, it’s safe to assume that the 33-year-old Kelly getting the role is a bit of a long shot.
While the musician isn’t the first person who comes to mind when one thinks of theLegend of Zeldafranchise or Link, Kelly is a longtime fan of the franchise and even cosplayed as Link for a Haloween event in 2022 alongside his partner Megan Fox, who rounded off the pairing by cosplaying Princess Zelda. Despite pulling off the look unexpectedly well, his enjoyment of the game series is unlikely to serve as sufficient incentive to overlook more traditional choices. Other than Kelly, a more likely candidate who has expressed interest in the film isBotW voice actress and musician Patricia Summersett. The voice actress has expressed her desire to play Princess Zelda in a live-action adaptation.
While it is always fun to see what celebrities fancy themselves as actors when a new project is announced, the casting decision is not one that Nintendo or anyone involved will take lightly, asThe Legend of ZeldaMovie may change Link forever. Thanks to the potential for ruinous damage to a beloved and highly profitable core IP, there’s little doubt that whoever does get the role will be someone with notable talent and industry experience.
The live-actionLegend of Zeldaproject has no release date given.
